OVERVIEW

Position is responsible for providing administrative support to the Juvenile Department staff including but not limited to clerical and receptionist duties, and JCS/JIS computer input and output. This position serves as the Juvenile Department intake referral contact person.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Keep the Administrator appraised of information and deadlines requiring attention and perform duties as assigned by the Administrator.
  • Provide support services to juvenile court staff, including but not limited to preparation of court documents, investigative reports, evaluations, program documents, and scheduling.
  • Operate and maintain current information on the statewide JCS computer system.
  • Maintain accounts payable records and accept / record diversion fees and deposits as well as compiling State and County statistics and complete quarterly and year-end reports.
  • Process all referrals including but not limited to receiving and screening Juvenile referrals, create and maintain Department records / files, and input / update court information.
  • Receive and screen the public by telephone and in person.
  • Utilize RCW’s, WAC’s, and other resource materials as needed.
  • Provide input into the development of policies and procedures.
  • Attend staff meetings, training opportunities, youth staffing, etc.
  • Present a professional public appearance and dress in appropriate attire.
  • Present and conduct oneself in a professional manner that reflects positively on this agency and maintains the dignity and decorum of the court.
  • This position requires a highly reliable, punctual, and dependable individual.
  • Organize and plan multiple tasks and responsibilities.
  • Perform complex work involving the use of independent judgment and personal initiative.
  • Relate positively with co-workers, elected officials, public and private individuals and agencies.
  • Maintain confidentiality standards and exercise discretion.
  • Perform other duties as directed or required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Intermediate business administration and office clerical skills including phone etiquette.
  • Juvenile development, family dynamics, legal procedures for court and community resources.
  • Local, State, and Federal policies as they relate to County Government.
  • Advanced ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Effectively deal with emotionally charged people who may be emotionally charged by issues and information being presented.
  • Operate a personal computer and software necessary to perform the requirements of the job.
  • Explain complex issues in a simple understandable manner.
  • Project a positive, professional image for self and the County.
  • Maintain composure under stressful situations and provide problem-solving techniques.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships and good public relations with other employees, agencies, property owners, and the public.
  • Meet deadlines while maintaining flexibility necessary to accommodate any given situation.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS

  • This position is responsible for routing youth and the public. Some youth may exhibit signs of anger, acting out behavior, and/or may suffer from emotional or mental health problems.
  • Youths, their families, and members of the public may communicate using emotionally charged, angry or abusive language and/or demeanor.
  • Work is performed mainly in an office with extended periods of sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, walking, and lifting (up to 40 pounds waist high).
  • Driving, climbing stairs, and walking outdoors on uneven terrain in a variety of weather conditions.
  • May work an alternative schedule at the sole discretion of the County.
  • Potential for working evenings, occasional weekends, holidays and out of town travel.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND OTHER RECRUITING REQUIREMENTS

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of college background in Business Administration preferred.
  • Good reading and writing skills, maturity, dependability, responsibility, confidentiality, honesty and the ability to work in a team setting are required.
  • A valid Washington State Driver’s License is required.
  • A background security check will be required if a job offer is made.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $3,849.00 - $4,390.00 per month
