Hiring Range: $17.19 - $18.30 Hourly
The Denver Sheriff Department is the largest Sheriff Department agency in the state of Colorado and is comprised of many divisions and diverse operations with over 1000 uniformed and non-uniformed staff members. These operations include two separate jails, security for the District and County Court systems, state inmate transportation, extradition duties, fugitive and K-9 units and security at Denver Health Medical Center.
The Denver Sheriff Department is looking to fill one Administrative Assistant (ASA III) position within the Department. The Administrative Assistant position requires a team-oriented approach; flexibility in learning new systems, processes, procedures; a genuine service approach to internal and external customers; a willingness to work within a jail system, directly and indirectly serving incarcerated clients; a strong work ethic with attention to detail, spelling, grammar, punctuation and excellent communication and clerical skills.
This is a full-time position, working Monday-Friday during the day with some limited flexibility regarding hours.
This position is split between the Downtown Detention Center (490 W. Colfax) and the Denver County Jail (10500 E. Smith Road). Consistent with City and County of Denver practice for civilian employees, all Programs Team staff are responsible for paying their own parking at the Downtown Detention Center.
Successful candidates must complete and pass a background investigation that encompasses the applicant's employment and criminal history.
Job responsibilities will include:

Reviewing, sorting, and in some instances directly answering correspondence from incarcerated individuals.

Coordinating with external partners regarding program enrollment, and completing, distributing, and collecting clients’ homework assignments.

Monitoring Programs team email account, providing prompt coordination with external partners, and triaging emails to appropriate team members.

Developing and improving administrative processes for the Programs Team, including identifying existing gaps and anticipating team needs.

Supporting administrative needs of the Programs Team, including supply orders, meeting agendas and minutes, and equipment inventory.

Running weekly class lists for participation in jail-based programming.

Supporting the implementation of special projects, such as identification for incarcerated individuals, confined voting, and tablets for incarcerated individuals.

Monitoring Programs Team databases and dashboards for any issues with data completion or technological gaps.

Supporting the development of forms for collecting data from incarcerated clients.

Maintaining all updated Programs Team information across the jails, both hard copy and electronically.

Utilizing a computer to input information/data and to create, edit, compile, manipulate, and retrieve files and/or databases and create reports.

Operating word processing equipment to create, format, print, and revise letters, memos, reports, forms, labels, and other printed materials.

Preparing and process a variety of documents according to guidelines.

Operating a variety of office equipment.

Performing other duties as needed.

Education Requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.

Experience Requirement: Two (2) years of clerical experience.

Education & Experience Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement.
