Under the direction of the Adult Infusion Nurse Manager, the AIS Infusion Nurse is an intermediate level clinician with a preferred minimum of 5 years’ experience as an adult home infusion nurse with the Johns Hopkins Home Care Group. The AIS Infusion Nurse provides safe, holistic, and high-quality care to his/her patients using critical thinking in the application of evidence-based practice. The AIS Infusion Nurse develops individual care plans for complex patients collaborating with the multi-disciplinary team to promote positive patient outcomes. The AIS Infusion Nurse holds additional responsibilities to include the precepting and mentoring of new clinical staff and provides an individually designed program that is tailored to the orientee's needs. Additionally, the AIS Infusion Nurse is responsible for assisting the nurse manager with identifying areas of inconsistency and deficiency in practice. The AIS Infusion Nurse measures the need, develops appropriate education sessions to improve the identified deficiency, implements at least one educational session to positively influence practice, and provides a post-assessment to measure the degree of success that educational event has on practice. The AIS Infusion Nurse holds responsibility in assisting with operational functionality of the nursing division by providing back-up coverage to the senior infusion nurse role and is an active participant on the infusion steering committee as well as a minimum of one other assigned work group.

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred.
  • Mid-line Certification, preferred.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge and understanding of Enteral and Parenteral nutrition including care for Feeding tubes.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Patient Controlled Analgesia (PCA) infusion via IV and SC routes.
  • Knowledge and understanding of vascular system and its interrelatedness to other body systems.

Proficiency in:

  • Starting/maintaining patency of peripheral IV's.
  • Knowledge of and ability to care for central venous access devices (CVAD).
  • Blood drawing from CVAD.
  • Knowledge of JCAHO, Federal, and State regulatory standards
  • Knowledge and understanding of Medication Management including administration of IV Medications, Side effects, and Anaphylaxis management.

Required Licensure, Certification, etc.:

  • Current and unrestricted RN licensure in state of practice.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Current Maryland State Driver's License and agreement to comply with Maryland Seat Belt Law.
  • Current auto insurance.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of two years hospital experience as a practicing nurse. (ICU or specialty unit preferred).
  • Infusion nursing experience preferred but not required.
