POSITION OVERVIEW:
MP Materials owns and operates Mountain Pass, the only Rare Earth mining and processing site in North America. Rare Earths power the modern economy. They are essential components in a wide range of industrial, clean energy and information technology applications.
The Analytical Lab Technician Trainee will have the responsibility to support laboratory operations. This person will work on routine samples under the guidance of the lab supervisor as well as other analysts and technicians. Tasks include sample preparation and analyses, data reporting, lab inspections, cleaning and organization. The laboratory technician trainee may perform more advanced analyses under the guidance of more senior analysts.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work under the guidance of the lab supervisor and lab chemists to track incoming samples and prepare them for analysis.
- Prepare samples at a high volume, with repetitive activities
- Use required personal protection equipment (PPE)
- Perform safety inspections on equipment and building
- Receive and track samples from various plant operations
- Prepare samples for titration and perform titrations.
- Maintain the traceability of samples delivered to the laboratory
- General lab support including cleaning and organization
- Shift and variable schedule work will be required.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
· Good employment history
· Experience with laboratory analyses or college chemistry is helpful.
· Proven ability to learn in a professional work environment
· Familiarity with different analytical techniques and instrumentation
· Familiarity with standard computer software
REQUIRED EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
· Previous college classes in science a plus
· Previous laboratory experience or college-level laboratory classes in physical sciences is preferred
· Valid Driver’s License and good driving record required in order to drive company vehicles on property

SAFETY PROVISION

Employee must have a willingness to promote safety among the workforce, participate in Process Hazard Analysis procedures and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews.
(PPE) Personal Protective Equipment is required when performing work in a mine, manufacturing, outdoor, or plant environment. Required PPE may include, but is not limited to, hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Our facility sits at an elevation of 4700 feet.
Employees may subject to extreme weather conditions when working in an outdoor setting.
Work is in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include expose to moving mechanical parts, toxic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, explosives, fumes or airborne particles.

Manual dexterity; sense of touch; sense of smell; speaking clearly; hearing-speech range; hearing – all ranges; seeing, reading and comprehensions; seeing – distant/near; depth perception; color vision.
While performing the responsibilities of the Analytical Lab Technician Trainee, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to stand and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate laboratory equipment. The employee is occasionally required to walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Employee must pass a respiratory fit test. Employee must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must be able to work in appropriate PPE. These requirements are representative, but not all-inclusive, of the knowledge, skill, and ability required of the Analytical Lab Technician Trainee.

Pay: $29.00 - $30.00 per hour
