Responsibilities:

CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
May include any and/or all of the following:

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES

  • The Medical Director must function as a collaborator and team member to accomplish applicable goals and functions of the organization.
  • Attend Medical Staff meetings, Department meetings, and Hospital Administrative meetings relating to the operation and education of the Department and the Medical Staff.
  • Participate in administrative decision making and recommend and approve policies and procedures.
  • Provide information to Hospital regarding administrative and patient care matters related to the Department and the anesthesia providers.
  • The Medical Director must act as a liaison between hospital physicians, CRNAs, staff, vendors, funding sources, and other system departments or services as needed.
  • Oversee the performance of the Department, including but not limited to those contractually obligated performance based measures.
  • Collaborate with Chief CRNA to establish criteria for adequate staffing as applicable.
  • Participate in the Hospital’s quality assurance efforts as requested by the Hospital.
  • Develop standards for continuity of care and case management.
  • Remain cognizant of rules and regulation as they pertain to the American Society of Anesthesiologists and remain compliant at a local, state, and federal level.
  • Deliver periodic departmental status reports illustrating key performance indicators pertinent to anesthesia and surgical patient throughput.
  • Assist with the development of safety protocols and regulations designed to ensure compliance with the facility and governmental regulations.
  • Assist the facility, as required, for preparation and maintenance to meet the requirements set forth by local, state, and federal governmental health agencies including, but not limited to The Joint Commission, Medicare Conditions of Participation, and other applicable licensing requirements.
  • Perform other duties related to the Service and Department as assigned by the Facility’s CEO and LifeLinc representative from time to time.
  • Perform additional duties required in site specific Facility Agreement. (If Applicable - See Exhibit A)


CLINICAL DUTIES

  • In addition to performing and providing routine anesthetics, the On-Site Medical Director shall assist to organize and coordinate physician services and services provided by other professionals as they relate to the Anesthesia Department.
  • Ensure the availability of adequate anesthesia staffing to provide clinical, medical, and administrative leadership support throughout the organization.
  • Maintain current policies and procedures set forth by LifeLinc and propose new and efficient policies when applicable.
  • Perform clinical reviews and audits on all clinical services provided by other practitioners employed by LifeLinc.
  • Assist with technical troubleshooting regarding facility’s anesthesia equipment.
  • Responsible for training and oversight of all clinical staff and personnel as applicable.


COMMUNICATION
:

  • Confer and consult with Hospital administration from time to time regarding the organization and management of the Department in order to enhance its public service capabilities, efficiency and quality of medical care.
  • Communicate effectively with the On-Site Chief CRNA
  • Maintain dedicated administrative office hours and be available by e-mail and telephone when not at the Hospital.
  • Works with peers to obtain required information on a timely basis and to solve outstanding issues, as appropriate.
  • Promotes and contributes positively to the teamwork of the department by assisting coworkers, contributing ideas and problem-solving with co-workers.


LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Must be able to read and write English.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to supervisors, patients, patient's family and other employees of organization.
  • Able to work in a team-oriented environment.


REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


COMPUTER SKILLS

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have general computer literacy skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

  • Complies with all information security practices.
  • Has knowledge of and adheres to all compliance regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Takes annual HIPAA compliance exam.
Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and experience equivalent to:

Must be a graduate of an accredited school of medicine in anesthesia with a current license in good standing to practice in the State of California.
