Responsibilities
GENERAL PURPOSE
The Answer Desk Assistant covers both of the Miner Library public service desks – Answer Desk and Computing Center Help Desk – and is expected to work one or both, as assigned. Provides customer service to patrons; assists with basic clerical tasks such as scanning and printing. Shelves items and processes fees.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Completes basic clerical tasks such as scanning, printing, and photocopying. Answers questions received in person, by phone, by email, or web chat.
- Completes computer trouble-shooting including the creation of support tickets in Request Tracker for issues reported to Help Desk. Assists customers with Blackboard, MS Office, Outlook. Assists with installation and support of Miner-supported computer apps and in setting up secure URMC mobile profiles. Performs regularly scheduled desktop computer updates and assists with the SMD iPad rollout.
- Completes basic tasks associated with library materials including checking materials in and out and shelving returned items; gathering requested articles as well as scanning them for delivery.
- Completes basic duties associated with opening and closing the library including securing cash, clearing the library, locking the stacks, tidying the library, and recording daily statistics.
- Processes fines and fees using the cash register

QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Verifiable library or relevant service experience required
- Proficiency with iOS/MacOS and/or Windows required
- Strong oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills required
- Attention to detail required
