POSITION SUMMARY:
This position was developed to oversee all aquatics activities at the YMCA, including general aquatics operations, lifeguarding, maintaining a safe swimming condition, and pool operations. The position will extend the Y’s mission by creating a positive atmosphere where everyone is respected and welcomed and builds relationships with team members and members alike.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Operations
  • Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate team and achieve goals. Ensures records of certifications are current. Monitors
and approves team hours worked. Addresses all department staff performance and maintains all appropriate written documentation.
  • Develops and monitors annual Aquatics department revenue and expense budget to meet branch fiscal objectives. Accountable for all aquatics
department financial results.
  • Maintains the highest standards in pool safety and is in full compliance with the association and Ellis standards and guidelines at all times.
  • Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local, Ellis & Associates and YMCA health and safety regulations as well as current ADA guidelines.
  • Assists in YMCA fundraising activities, Annual Campaign, and special events as needed.
Lifeguard
  • Responsible for all lifeguard shift scheduling and filling lifeguard shifts as necessary
  • Responsible for training and recertifying current and potential lifeguards
  • Oversees lifeguards while on deck, taking corrective action as necessary
  • Conducts certification training as needed to include (but not limited to) Ellis lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR.
Pool operations
  • Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Secures and schedules pool facilities. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility
maintenance.
  • Responsible for fixing basic pool maintenance issues.
  • Track and oversee completion of daily chemical logs.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be at least 21 years old and have a current lifeguard, CPR/AED, O2, First Aid certification.
  • Agrees to possess a Certified Pool Operation (CPO), and Ellis & Associate Lifeguard certification within three months of employment.
  • At least two years’ experience in instruction and management of a wide variety of Aquatics programs and pool maintenance.
  • Must have good interpersonal, public relations and communications skills, including the ability to make presentations and handle media inquiries.
Proficient in swimming and safety skills. Must be willing to learn all that the YMCA does to impact our community.
  • Ability to work significant evening and weekend shifts required.
  • Multi-lingual desired but not required
WORK SCHEDULE:
The schedule for this full-time position is generally Monday through Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm, though overtime, evenings, and weekend work may be required depending on the business need.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to see close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities.
  • Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility.
  • Climbing pool equipment including a 10 ft. ladder.
  • Sets up and takes down folding chairs, tables, and various equipment for activities.
  • Works outside in 80-90+ degree temperatures for a maximum of 20-60 minutes at a time several times during a shift.
  • Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position, including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting as well as correctly demonstrating the proper form of exercises.
