Position Summary

The Aquatic Supervisor is expended to supervise assigned pool and ensure a safe, clean and enjoyable aquatic environment for YMCA members and participants for their assigned Family Center, hires, trains schedules and supervises aquatics staff. The Aquatic Supervisor creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with the YMCA of Central Florida policies and procedures.

Job Responsibilities

  • Recommends and implements innovative aquatics programs that promote retention of existing members and engage new members.
  • Supervision of assigned department staff, to include hiring, orientating, scheduling, mentoring, counseling and providing ongoing training and evaluation. Ensure they are always following all safety and policy regulations and support aquatic initiatives to achieve retention goals.
  • Perform coaching of aquatics staff and direction of programs as scheduled, and/or in order to provide substitution coverage as needed.
  • Maintain accurate program schedules and procedures while working with Family Center’s leaders to provide maximum opportunities for member/staff connections. Collaborate with department leads to maximize enrollments in program registration and pool usage.
  • Greet and develop effective relationships with the members, participants and other staff.
  • Assist in the retention of existing members and engagement of new members by informing them of the Family Center aquatic programs, including Safe Start, lap swimming, swim lessons, swim team and group exercise classes.
  • Monitor, coordinate and schedule programmatic equipment maintenance and repairs. Purchase equipment, parts and supplies approved by the purchase requisition process.
  • Monitor daily operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA of Central Florida health and safety standards and policies. Ensure all program staff are current with required certifications.
  • Know and review all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with the YMCA of Central Florida policies and procedures.
  • Attend all staff meetings, monthly in-services and trainings as required.
  • Assist in the identification of active volunteers for the Family Center Annual Scholarship Campaign.
  • Provide input for the development of the swim team program both locally and across the YMCA of Central Florida.
  • Promote and represent the mission and core values of the YMCA of Central Florida in the Family Center and its programs.
  • All other duties assigned by Management.
Requirements:
  • High School graduate or equivalent required. Associate or Bachelor degree preferred.
  • Minimum 1-3 years of previous supervisory and leadership experience in aquatics required.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required.
  • Current YMCA Lifeguard/YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant or Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches certification required.
  • YMCA Aquatic Management certifications a plus.
  • Current YMCA Swim Coach or USA Swimming Coach certification a plus.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent follow through actions regarding communication.
  • Proficient with technology; including Microsoft Office, required.
  • ASCA certification a plus.
  • Desire and ability to work with people of all ages.
  • Demonstrated responsibility and dependability.
  • Must exhibit patience, sensitivity and understanding.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced multi-priority environment

  • Must possess the physical ability to pass a lifeguard water test and perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a professional water rescue.
  • The employee must be able to perform medium work: exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Must be alert at all times, keeping safety in mind. Must possess acceptable hearing and visual capabilities in order to monitor environment and members’ well-being.
  • Must possess auditory, verbal and visual capabilities in order to adequately communicate via phone and in person.
  • May be required to work outdoors for extended periods of time. May be exposed to extreme outdoor weather conditions and temperatures and to wet and/or humid conditions in swimming pool areas.
  • The employee is subject to noise: There is sufficient noise to cause the employee to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
  • May be required to work with hazardous chemicals (i.e. pool chemicals, cleaning solutions, disinfectants, etc.).
