The Area Operating Partner is a multi-unit leader who drives the business through excellence in executing Panera’s processes and operations across a market of 8-10 bakery-cafes. Area Director Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for ensuring the execution of all Panera standards (operational, food quality, food safety, people, etc..) within every cafe on every shift, every day
  • Is responsible for achieving key business results and growing the business through coaching and holding accountable cafe management teams for the execution against these standards
  • Knows Panera’s vision and mission and the levers that drive our business; effectively understands, applies, and communicates the business priorities
  • Can identify existing gaps in performance and put in place solutions with a bias toward action
  • Creates discipline around the execution of multiple business channels within Panera’s cafes
  • Acts as a proactive partner to provide resources and support to cafe management. Holds management teams accountable for results
  • Is responsible for unlocking and building the capabilities and performance of their people, which is demonstrated through the disciplined and consistent use of our people practices by every cafe management team in the recruitment, hiring, development (training/coaching), and succession planning of all associates and managers
  • Is directly accountable for cultivating and maintaining a pipeline of talent to support the growth and needs of the market, and to continually elevate employee performance
  • Is responsible for ensuring the cafes are in compliance with all established operational standards and federal and state employee laws, around the practices and standards for food and workplace safety
  • Will conduct routine structured visits, investigate concerns, and then partner with the appropriate resources in Legal, Risk Management, Quality Assurance, HR, and Panera’s crisis team to protect our associates, customers, and our Brand
  • Ensures every cafe fosters and maintains an inclusive and engaging work environment where every associate can show up authentically, free of discrimination and harassment
  • Is responsible for creating a marketing plan focused on developing, maintaining, and ensuring operational excellence in every cafe and for the communication and execution of all operations, menu, and marketing initiatives to build sales and manage costs
  • Quickly zeros in on the highest priorities that add the most value, puts plans in place to affect these areas, and then continuously monitors and adjusts the plan to achieve long-term results
  • Ensures that the right processes and behaviors are practiced by each cafe’s management team to deliver on the market’s established goals and to protect Panera’s brand identity and purpose
  • Is responsible for achieving results in a market through coordination, communication, and accountability to ensure the successful roll-out and sustained management of all new products, processes, and programs, which includes but is not limited to all operational and people components
  • Is the champion for all ongoing updates and changes
