Job Title: Arts & Crafts Coordinator

FLSA Status: Seasonal, Non-Exempt

Reports to: Seasonal Day Camp Director Date: 12/2022


Position Summary:

The employee is responsible for the organization of the Arts & Crafts programs and the wellbeing of all campers. This is a Support Staff position, reports to the Seasonal Day Camp Director, and serves as the main programmer and support for any arts and crafts programming. This position will oversee 1.) Arts programming, 2.) Crafts programming, 3.) Fine arts programming, and 4.) Maintaining a clean and organized environment in the Arts & Crafts room. This Support Staff Member also handles the behind the scenes program set up, pertinent paperwork and making sure the program area runs in a smooth and organized fashion.


Essential Functions:

  • Participate in pre-camp training and planning process.
  • Responsibility for the safety and well-being of all campers and staff throughout the camp program.
  • Abide by all Camp Y-Noah and Akron YMCA Policies and Procedures, as well as standards set forth by the American Camp Association (ACA) or other camp governing bodies.
  • Plan weekly schedules, as well as inform staff/campers about arts/crafts activities
  • Plan and set up Art/Craft/Fine Art Activity for each age group, camp, specific to ability.
  • Provide sample of the art activity for each group
  • Responsibility for the collecting, heat pressing, tie dying, etc. of all Camper Shirts
  • Provide a detailed inventory or program materials and request replacement equipment as necessary.
  • Maintain and clean the program equipment spaces including any outdoor spaces used.
  • Supervise and lead participants in specialty activities to ensure safety, appropriate use of equipment and proper learning of skills/techniques for the experiential enhancement of the individual
  • Must be able to multi-task, be detail oriented and creative.
  • When needed, gives Counselors breaks in their day.
  • Assists during check-in and check-out of Resident Camp and Day Camp.
  • Assist peers with various responsibilities.
  • Support counselors, Day Camp Leadership, Resident Camp Leadership, and specialists with behavioral needs within village campers.
  • Must be able to work extended hours of physical work including running, jumping, dancing, and singing.
  • Support Resident Camp programming at completion of Day Camp (i.e evening programs, check in/out, etc.)
  • Emotional resiliency (handles stressful situations appropriately) and cognitive abilities (mental skills necessary) to carry out job responsibilities in a high paced, social environment
  • Any other duties as deemed necessary by supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years old
  • Must live on site during summer season.
  • Must have proficient art skills; fine arts, music, crafts, creativity, etc.
  • Must display an overall willingness to do what needs to be done with a positive attitude to provide the best experience possible for our campers, guests, and donors
  • Must be able to multi-task and have excellent organizational skills

Physical Demands:

  • This position would require the ability to listen to others, observe others actions, read text and information, comprehend instructions and manuals, physical ability to move about the camp property in various environmental conditions. This position must have the mental capability to make good decisions which affect those around them.

  • In order to guide YMCA Camp Y-Noah to becoming a premier camp, the Arts & Crafts Coordinator must possess superb skills in coordinating and creating art programming ensure that all campers are able to be creative and create something new during their time here at YMCA Camp Y-Noah. The Arts & Crafts Coordinator must also ensure proper relations are maintained between YMCA Camp Y-Noah and all groups to ensure program support and satisfaction.
