Position Summary
Pinehurst Medical Clinic is seeking an ASC Scheduling Coordinator to join our Gastroenterology (GI) practice in Pinehurst, NC. This position plays a key role in patient care working with our providers in providing the best in patient care by acting as a liaison between patients and medical support staff by greeting, instructing and directing patients and visitors for the ASC. The ASC Coordinator is responsible for entering all patient demographic, insurance information, and collection of payments upon check in/out or when scheduling an appointment. The ASC Coordinator will also be responsible for scheduling patient appointments for both established and when appropriate new patients for the clinic and ASC. This is a full-time day shift position and does not require weekend or holiday hours
Essential Functions Responsibilities
- Responsible for scheduling open access patients into the ambulatory surgery center (ASC) according to clinical algorithm established by ASC-approved guidelines.
- Responsible for obtaining and/or reviewing patient medical records such as office notes/test results including lab work and imaging studies to support open-access colonoscopies being scheduled.
- Demonstrates specific knowledge as it relates to GI surgical procedures and when/what insurances require the engagement of the pre-certification department to begin their process of authorization.
- Ensures Medical records were reviewed for prior GI procedures both at PMC and outside institutions to ensure screening clinical frequency guidelines are being followed and documented.
- Completes all follow-up secretary team tasks and delegated tasks for appts, tests, etc. within Touch works your dept. (Electronically, Paper, & by task)
- Advises patients regarding certain financial obligations including but not limited to co-payments, deductible amounts, insurance eligibility, etc.
- Answers telephones and returns calls in a timely manner, taking messages, handling requests, and providing accurate information as necessary.
- Handles mail, paperwork via fax, and medical records, assuring accuracy and completeness. To include scanning paperwork and indexing it into the patient chart
- Check eligibility on each patient daily and work all failed claims until claims pass audits
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education (Including Licenses and Certifications):
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
- One to two years of experience in a medical office setting is preferred.
