THE OPPORTUNITY: ASSEMBLY TECHNICIAN
USD Salary Range Transparency - $50,000 - $55,000 / year. Starting pay is commensurate with experience.
Metal additive manufacturing technology powered by 3D printing is evolving quickly from a niche tool used primarily in university research to an industry tool used to develop and manufacture products faster and at a lower cost. Xact Metal, Inc., headquartered in State College, PA, is making metal additive manufacturing systems affordable for small- to mid-sized companies who need prototyping, casting, tooling and printing of small parts, but could not afford metal powder-bed fusion systems in the past.
Anticipating rapid future company growth, Xact Metal has an immediate need for a FULL-TIME Production/Assembly/Installation Technician. The primary duties of this position will be assembling, troubleshooting, and testing machine components in a clean room environment and completing accurate, timely and thorough process documentation and production reports according to company protocol.

YOUR DAY-TO-DAY WORK COULD LOOK LIKE THIS - (but you already know there are more “regular” duties than this that pop up each day, right?):
- Read and interpret assembly blueprints or specifications; in collaboration with other team members, plan assembly or build operations that meet assigned tasks, work orders, and customer specifications
- Apply appropriate industry techniques and your skills to the company’s precision tools, and/or other specialized machinery to work with raw materials; assemble a part or parts that match assigned tasks, work orders and contract specifications
- Conduct parts/systems testing and quality control according to company and industry protocol; accurately analyze the state of all parts/components in-process to identify defects and determine the root cause(s) for quality issues
- Provide direct feedback to other team members involved in resolving a quality issue and also facilitate communication with management to prevent future defect repeats and losses to the company
- Participate with management in design and method improvements
- Propose/implement appropriate, timely, cost-effective corrective actions and continuous process improvements and verify effectiveness of any change
- Rework, repair, or replace damaged parts or assemblies
- Complete accurate, timely and thorough process documentation and production reports according to company protocol
- Lead and/or assist in installing and repairing equipment and conducting equipment/process training at customer sites
- According to established company procedures, perform routine maintenance and calibration of specific equipment

- regularly perform repetitive tasks
- sit or stand for long periods of time and routinely required to walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- regularly lift/maneuver/move objects weighing up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift/maneuver/move objects weighing up to 50 pounds
- specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, able to tell differences between colors and compare to color standards and the ability to adjust focus
- regularly possess manual/finger/hand dexterity to handle, manipulate, control, feel and adjust objects to put parts or pieces together quickly and accurately; sufficient hand strength is required to be able to operate a soldering iron and other hand tools effectively
- regularly speak clearly so listeners can understand; regularly understand the speech of another person.
- In certain workspaces, employees are required to wear the proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), which may include eye, hearing, and respiratory protection, protective smock, or face shields. Contact lenses may not be allowed in some areas in or around confined spaces with some exposure to chemicals, grease, oils, fumes, and/or other compounds.
MINIMUM JOB ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
A.A.S. degree from an accredited program in mechatronics or a related field, such as automated manufacturing technology, electrical technology, electro-mechanical maintenance technology, engineering CAD technology, engineering design technology, electronics and computer engineering, electronics, and computer engineering technology, robotics and automation technology or a comparable program of study in industrial, computing and engineering technologies; alternatively, at least 4-years mechatronics-specific work experience will be considered in lieu of the A.A.S. degree.
OTHER MUST-HAVE JOB ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to read, accurately comprehend/interpret and follow instructions, blueprints, schematics, and test plans furnished in written, digital/electronic, diagram, or schedule form
- Solid math and reasoning skills to prepare, compile and validate data/reports
- Ability to interpret data, evaluate metrics, and apply appropriate problem-analysis or problem-solving techniques to assess a technical production issue accurately.
- Comfort level with technology, software, and spreadsheets, including use of all Microsoft office products and smartphones and the willingness to learn new systems, techniques, and technologies
- If required by job duties, background checks (criminal/education/ employment/ reference/ credit/ DMV) may be performed; results must be satisfactory to the company
- Must possess a valid driver's license and provide your own transportation for driving to and from prospective/current accounts or other business events, as needed (+/- 15%). Periodic day and overnight travel may be required for customer/site visits, industry trade shows, and other business-related events; sporadic, future international travel may also be required. If hired, must be able to travel by standard carrier air and/or train.
- If hired, must adhere to all OSHA/safety standards and protocols, company policies and procedures, and other prescribed best practices/industry standards
DESIRED EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (These are a plus, not required!)
- Some direct work experience with electrical/electronic/mechanical systems is highly desired
- Additive manufacturing experience a plus!
