Job Summary

The Asset Management Engineer will be responsible for designing, documenting, and implementing the solution for identification and tracking of IT assets (hardware and software), as well as the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) at Vertiv.

It is incumbent upon the Asset Management Engineer to ensure uniformity of services, adherence to standards, and consistency of infrastructure delivery. The Asset Management Engineer works with external partners to deliver quality services to Internal Customers.

This role will use industry leading tools to identify all IT assets including software, hardware, virtual machines and cloud services, as well as for ensuring the ServiceNow CMDB is accurate and dynamically updated via Hardware/Software Asset and Configuration Item (CI) records and system integrations. The role will be responsible for tracking CIs through their full lifecycle from requisition through to retirement and playing a role in optimizing technology spend and procurement, and for developing the processes, systems, and tools for asset/configuration management.

This a hands-on technical job. A thorough understanding of IT asset and configuration management principles and methodologies is required. Experience with ServiceNow and the Configuration, as well as Asset modules is also required.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring that the Asset Management team objectives are met
  • Participate as an active hands-on member of the Asset Management team
  • Devise, document and implement processes and procedures for tracking assets
  • Identify, integrate, and automate data sources fed into the CMDB
  • Partner with data source owners and self-service integrate systems to gather data required to document all assets within the SNOW ServiceNow IT Asset Management (ITAM) platforms
  • Maintain and continuously update asset data within Vertiv’s dynamic global environment
  • Collaborate with IT Operations, Information Security and Governance teams, Procurement, and other applicable teams to gather data
  • Provide input and participate as required in the review of all software purchases and vendor negotiations to ensure technologies and solutions are not redundant and comply with the Vertiv standards
  • Define, document, and refine software license and subscription tracking (target state)
  • Perform internal vendor software application reconciliations to ensure licensing compliance
  • Identify redundancies, cost reduction and process improvement opportunities
  • Collect and report KPIs and metrics to measure, review and analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of the CMDB and Asset repositories within ServiceNow – maintain a clear picture about what IT manages versus the unmanaged as well as progress tracking to the target state
  • Implement and evolve management of the CMDB into a proactive operation model inclusive of annual audits of the CMDB to ensure Configuration Items are effectively captured and related asset management process are effective

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information sciences or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years of technical, asset management, or inventory experience
  • 3-5 years of experience with and/or understanding of Configuration Management
  • 3-5 years of ServiceNow Asset Module experience
  • Ability to effectively implement a CMDB and work with both vendor and consultant representatives to improve platform usage and drive progress
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Understanding of IT business practices
  • Familiar with a range of software and hardware
  • Strong scripting knowledge such as PowerBI, PowerShell, Python, VB, etc.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software
  • Excellent English verbal and written skills
  • Experience in project management and ability to facilitate the work of others
  • Capability to work in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to partner and communicated efficiently and quickly with data source owners to obtain required ITAM data
  • Excellent English verbal and written skills and be comfortable presenting ideas and issues to different levels within and outside of the organization, to include executive leadership, customers, auditors, etc.
  • Preferred:
    • Experience with Service Now CMDB and development
    • Experience with Qualys Asset Management modules
    • Certifications: ServiceNow – any, ITIL v3 or 4 Foundation certifications preferred; extensive knowledge of ITIL Configuration Items related best practices required
    • Knowledge of ISO/IEC 20000:2018 and CMMI
