Job description

The University of Missouri (MU) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR) and Department of Biochemistry, which is jointly affiliated with the School of Medicine (SOM) and CAFNR. Responsibilities will include contributions to graduate and undergraduate education. We seek applications at the interface of plant metabolism and radiochemistry that can take advantage of the generation of radio-isotopes at the University of Missouri Research Reactor (MURR).

Responsibilities: We seek dynamic individuals who will lead federally funded research programs, contribute to graduate and/or undergraduate education programs through instruction and research mentorship, and contribute to academic service on the campus and/or professionally. The faculty member is expected to develop a robust and externally funded research program utilizing the resources, capabilities, and equipment located in the Plant Radiotracer Laboratory at MURR to address fundamental questions in plant biology. Examples include, but are not limited to, studies of plant carbon or nitrogen dynamics utilizing radioactive 11C or 13N, aspects of micronutrient assimilation and/or exchange between plants, soil, and microorganisms, as well as studies in metabolic regulation using isotope ratio analysis. The conducted research should provide novel insights into how plants function and respond to their environment.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in a relevant Life or Physical Science.

Candidates will be evaluated on: A record of research employing radiotracers in an area of fundamental or agriculturally relevant plant biochemistry that complements departmental strengths. Applications for this position at the Assistant Professor level are encouraged, but candidates at a higher level will be considered if there is evidence of continuous extramural research funding, high impact publications and excellence in teaching and service expected of tenured faculty at a research-intensive university. A record of successful post-doctoral research; ability to communicate effectively in a research and educational setting; and evidence of past research collaborations or a willingness to work in related research areas.

Application Materials

Submit: (1) a cover letter; (2) a curriculum vitae; (3) a one-page summary of research accomplishments with two pages of future plans; (4) a narrative of teaching philosophy, (5) a diversity and inclusion statement; and (6) names and contact information of four references.

The University of Missouri values diversity and is committed to working towards achieving equity and inclusion within all its programs. Candidates applying for this position are required to provide a statement addressing how they would utilize their former experience and knowledge to promote diversity and inclusion at the university and how that commitment would add value to Department of Biochemistry.

Review of applications will begin on December 15, 2022 and will continue until the position is filled. For information, contact Dr. Lloyd Sumner (sumnerlw@missouri.edu) or Dr. David Braun (braundm@missouri.edu), Co-chairs of the Search Committee.
