Purpose:

To assist with the direction and implementation of the delivery of comprehensive child development family-centered Head Start/Early Head Start services, in accordance with the Head Start Program Performance Standards, Missouri Child Care Licensing Regulations, Missouri Accreditation, and the YWCA Internal Policies and Procedures.


Job Duties:

  • Assist in managing the center budget and the collection of parent co-parents and state assistance fees effectively. Help to ensure all collections and expenditures are timely and appropriate.
  • Assist the Center Manager in supervising center operations, including child development, nutrition, health, and dental education and children's practices, facilities, mental health, and disabilities services and ensure that program quality is high and operations meet all current policies and requirements
  • Assist the Center in observing and monitoring class operations and meal times. Demonstrate an understanding of child development and the management of a child developmentally appropriate Center; coordinate and monitor required health and safety requirements for the overall facility and playground while maintaining required compliance to ensure licensure and accreditations remain current.
  • Serve as part of the center team to develop center goals that are in keeping with the overall program goals. Help to ensure effective implementation goals, program action plans, policies, and procedures to achieve excellent service delivery in all areas of responsibility.
  • Assist the Center Manager in monitoring and guiding center staff to ensure program compliance and quality while providing staff training and coaching
  • Collaborate with the family partnership and health units to ensure that required services are provided for all children and families and ensure full enrollment and high average daily attendance
  • Help in the development of a center management plan with the Center and ERSEA Specialist. Help organize, monitor, and work with parent and community volunteers in the Center.
  • Communicate effectively with staff and parents to resolve issues and provide excellent customer services
  • Function in the role of a Center Manager when needed to ensure the effective operation of the Center.
  • The Assistant Center Manager must obtain the ServSafe Food Certification and First Aid/CPR Certification within six months of hire.

Formal Education/Experience:

  • Four-year college education - Bachelors or advanced degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development or a degree in a related field plus six college courses in Early Childhood Education.
  • Experience with low-income and culturally diverse families preferred.
  • Proficient with Office 365 or related software.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Maintain accurate records of staff and children in compliance with requirements.
  • Ensure accuracy of all reports, time records, requisitions, etc.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of center materials and ensure their security.
  • Ensure the center meets its in-kind requirement.
  • Model and encourage a positive understanding of early childhood development and education.
  • Assist in organizing and managing daily center activities in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a professional manner, adhere to the code of conduct and dress code, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Manage multiple simultaneous priorities effectively.
  • Work effectively with people of diverse social, economic, cultural, and educational backgrounds.
  • Supervisory experience in an early childhood program.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
