The Department of Physical Therapy at the University of New England ( http://www.une.edu/wchp/pt/) is currently inviting applications for an Assistant Clinical Professor with primary responsibilities in teaching. The position is a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure track appointment. Application review will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Start date is negotiable. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications.
The faculty member reports to the Program Director and is responsible for teaching aspects of the entry-level DPT curriculum. Primary teaching responsibilities may include involvement in courses related to foundational physical therapy skills and knowledge, psychosocial issues, management and leadership, or acute/general medical care provision, depending on candidate skills, interest, and knowledge. Up to 4 hours of clinical practice time per week may be negotiated. All department faculty engage in scholarly pursuits and in department, college, and/or university service.

Department faculty maintain active collaborations within the college and university; with clinicians, researchers, scholars, and service organizations in the local community; and with investigators from around the country and globe. New collaborations are welcome. Abundant teaching and scholarly resources ( http://www.une.edu/research/centers ) support faculty endeavors, and programs and activities are available to mentor junior faculty in teaching pedagogy, research, and scholarship.
UNE is a private, co-educational institution with two campuses on the southern Maine coast and a third campus in Tangier, Morocco. The Department of Physical Therapy is based on the historic Portland campus alongside health professions training programs in dental hygiene, dental medicine, nursing, nurse anesthesia, occupational therapy, pharmacy, physician assistant, and social work. Interprofessional education and service learning opportunities are hallmarks of campus culture. Additional health professions training programs (athletic training; applied exercise science; health, wellness, & occupational studies; nutrition; osteopathic medicine; and public health) are located on the nearby Biddeford, ME campus. Portland is Maine’s business, financial, medical, and retail center, and one of the nation’s most livable small cities. It’s beautiful seaside location, approximately 100 miles north of Boston, MA, is within easy driving distance of inland lakes and mountains.

Responsibilities

Qualifications
  • Physical therapist licensed to practice in the US
  • Earned doctoral degree (i.e., DPT or terminal academic degree)
  • Minimum three years of full-time post-licensure clinical practice
  • Experience with supervising physical therapy students in a clinical setting
  • Proficiency with database management, including use of MS Excel and Word
  • Strong and effective oral / written communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills involving multiple stakeholders (e.g., students, peers and University colleagues)


Preferred qualifications include:
  • Previous DPT teaching experience
  • Pediatric or Cardiopulmonary expertise
  • American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) Certification
  • Potential to pursue programmatic initiatives aligned with expertise and experience
  • Terminal academic degree (e.g., Ph.D., Ed.D., D.Sc., or D.H.Sc)
  • Knowledge of current national trends in physical therapy and physical therapy education
  • Involvement in local, regional, or national professional organizations
  • Defined scholarly area of interest
