CBMS Assistant Dean of Students - Job Description
Reports To: Dean of Students and Principal
JOB SUMMARY - The Assistant Dean of Students is responsible for assisting in contributing to and communicating the school vision and focused plan for improving student behavior; assisting in the support of teachers in improving their instructional practice as it relates to student behavior; assisting in creating a community of continuous learning for all staff and students; and assisting in fostering a culture of high expectations for all students
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Act as a behavior coach for CBMS students.
2. Staff the planning room.
3. Assist in facilitating the restorative justice program.
4. Assist in the collection, analysis, and understanding of student behavior data.
5. Assist in the management of student supervision issues and enforce school behavioral expectations with assigning appropriate consequences for behavior while adhering to school policies.
6. Assist staff and parents in developing student behavioral expectations in the form of behavior plans.
7. Report issues to authorities as necessary, including child abuse, suspicious activity etc.
8. Participate in meetings as appropriate.
9. Counsel students and parents about school and district policies.
10. Identify students that have special needs and understand student referral systems. (Student Support Teams, MTSS)
11. Advocate for children and actively embrace community involvement.
12.Appreciate and respect diversity and difference in both teaching and learning.
13.Effectively balance flexibility and organization.
14.Comply with applicable district, state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations.
15.Attend work regularly.
16.Other duties may be assigned as needed.

1. Demonstrated ability to support systemic change and successfully implement reform initiatives that produce significant gains in closing the achievement gap.
2. Effective interpersonal skills in managing and interacting with diverse groups of stakeholders.
3. Excellent time management and organizational skills.
4. Demonstrated ability to manage conflict through quality decision-making and effective problem solving.
5. Ability to handle intense or controversial situations with levity and humor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Candidates for this position must meet the minimum qualifications.
- A minimum of a High School Diploma.
- Previous experience working with students, preferably middle level grades 5-8.
