Assistant Director for Emergency Communications Operations
Job description
- Supervises, assigns, trains, and evaluates employees in the performance of public safety dispatching and emergency call-taking duties; and handles personnel concerns of the staff, and may recommend discipline up to suspension;

Assists in development of policy and procedures by adding new policies to the S.O. P.;

Provides employees with guidance and interpretation of policies and procedures;

Schedules and assigns personnel; maintains adequate staffing levels;

Monitors overall performance of communications equipment and makes notification to Technical Services staff when appropriate;

Prepares and maintains records and reports as required by local and state laws, and policies and procedures of the Communications Center;

Assists in the development of policies and procedures for the Communications Center; recommends changes in work methods, policies and procedures;

Maintains security and safety of the Operations Center for all staff; makes notation of, notifications, and corrects where possible any workplace hazards;

Inspects, monitors and reports the need or preventative maintenance and repairs of center equipment, systems, premises, supplies and installations within the center;

Oversite of all Training Section activity including: Training Academy, Remedial and Continuing Education Programs;

Oversite of all Special Operations Section activity including: Special Details and TCT Personnel and Responses.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: Considerable latitude for independent judgment, initiative, leadership and resourcefulness on operational and administrative matters to adapt existing guidelines and precedents to specific situations and in developing new or improved techniques and methods of obtaining effective results and overcoming unusual problems.
EVALUATION: Work is reviewed by the Deputy Director through interactive observation, reports, meetings, and conferences and evaluated for results obtained, fulfillment of expectations and program objectives, and adherence to program budget, management philosophies, operational guidelines, and law.
Ability to sit, stand and walk for moderate periods of time. Ability to work in all weather conditions. Occaasionally may be required to do Medium Level and/or Heavy Level physical work that would include walking, pushing, and lifting.

NOTE 1: This position requires availability 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. This is an Essential Employee position. Essential employees are obligated to report to work as scheduled or remain at work during emergencies.
