Job Summary: The Assistant Director of Programming supports the Director of Programming in focusing on continual process and operations improvements in the area of programming and clinical services, oversees multi-site daily operations, strategic planning, and develops and monitors the programming of all sites.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides policy and strategic direction and reviews and approves decisions regarding policy and issues impacting overall operations of the organization, as appropriate.
  • Oversees establishment, review, and revision of program policies and operating procedures to optimize use of resources and maximize efficiency and effectiveness of programs.
  • Supervises program managers as assigned by the Director of Programming. This supervision includes oversight of day-to-day operations and decision-making and, in association with the Director of Programming and the rest of the director team, oversight of the strategic development of goals, objectives and new programs for AGNW.
  • Provide insight and guidance around day-to-day program coverage as needed.
  • This position supervises on-call shelter staff team for all site coverage and will schedule monthly on-call meetings.
  • Create and maintain effective communication with program managers and behavioral health staff.
  • Adhere to all state and federal privacy and security regulations applicable to the program, and to AGNW's policies and agreements regarding confidentiality, privacy, and security.
  • Secure and ensure professional development opportunities for staff (i.e., in-service trainings or outsourced).
  • Work with Program Managers to identify how to connect with more diverse communities within our catchment areas.
  • Ensure, formulate, and implement as necessary, departmental operations, policies, and procedures for staff and programs that adhere to contract stipulations from the Joint Office of Homeless Services.
  • Represent AGNW within the community through a presence within the internal and external communities as it relates to diversity and inclusion.
  • Participate in compliance, quality assurance and quality improvement activities as directed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervise program managers as assigned by the Director of Programming.
  • Supervise on-call shelter staff team.


Preferred Experience:

  • 3 – 4 years direct experience in a similar position.
  • A minimum of four (4) years of management experience in addition to a minimum of four (4) years of experience with working with homeless or formerly homeless individuals battling housing barriers, addiction issues, and/or mental health issues.
  • Understanding of Housing First and Harm Reduction models.
  • Proven leadership skills.

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • A minimum of four (4) years of management experience in addition to a minimum of four (4) years of experience with working with homeless or formerly homeless individuals battling housing barriers, addiction issues, and/or mental health issues.
  • Understanding of Housing First and Harm Reduction models.

  • Professional maintenance of appropriate boundaries.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity and physical ability to perform assigned tasks.


Additional eligibility requirements:

  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and provide proof of vaccination. This includes being up to date on all booster shots.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Must be able to pass a random drug test.


Work environment:

Working indoors and outdoors in heat and cold | Slippery and uneven walking surfaces | Working in close proximity to others | Exposure to offensive odors


Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift up to 50lbs | Bending, stooping, reaching | Sitting for extended periods of time | Standing for extended periods of time.


Travel required:

Occasional travel to and from other work sites up to 70% of the time.
