Position Summary
Under general administrative direction, this position works with the Director to provide leadership for managing, planning and directing the activities and operations of the team at the Parks and Recreation Department. The Assistant Director will primarily be responsible for managing the Park Operations, Preserve and Greenbelt, and Recreation Managers, as well as coordinating activities and operations with other City Departments and outside agencies. The position will work to ensure operational effectiveness and efficiency.

Essential Functions
- Assists with the development and manages the implementation of department goals, objectives, policies and priorities.
- Assists with the preparation, execution and monitoring operating budgets and participates in long-range planning for the department.
- Participates in departmental studies to analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of work methods and resource utilization. Manages departmental performance metrics relating to operations.
- Directs department managers and staff to ensure work schedules and plans follow city policies, procedures, park master plans, department goals and objectives. Fosters and promotes The Lewisville Way.
- Manages staff recruitment, development and retention to assure conformance with standards, goals and team member’s own professional aspirations through clear articulation of goals, coaching and mentorship.
- Assists in soliciting and monitoring contractual services for the operational needs (landscaping, urban forest activities, aquatic mechanical services, playground installation, etc.)
- Assists in pursuing and maintaining accreditation through review, development and implementation of required standards.
- Analyzes trends and seeks feedback from team members to make data and value driven decisions; monitors and evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures. Develops recommendations for modifications and changes when needed. Works with managers to develop training modules for various procedures and tasks.
- Assists in the analysis and formulation of the business plan, annual budget and goals and objectives for the department and its divisions.
- Researches, compiles, and presents information and recommendations to Director, City Manager, Park Board, City Council, DRC and public.
- Coordinates and consults with other city departments and agencies such as Corps of Engineers, LISD, TXDOT, NCTCOG, and other municipalities on park maintenance issues and improvement projects.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned. Accepts stretch assignments to improve one's self and delegates work in a similar manner.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
** Bachelor’s degree required. A degree in Park and Recreation Management, Land and Resource Management, Turf Management, or Public Administration is preferred.
Experience
Five years of increasingly responsible professional experience in a related field including three years of significant supervisory or project management experience.

- Operational practices for parks and recreation programs, environmental education, parks, sports fields, open spaces, preserves, greenbelts, facilities and trail systems.
- Parks and recreation services and the important role they play in a community.
- Municipal budget and performance metric preparation and administration principles and practices.
- Recreation, park operation and project management software systems.
- Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) standards and processes.
- Park development and planning principles.
- Principles of leadership, supervision and project management.

Work Hours:
Monday - Thursday7:30 - 5:30 PM, Friday 7:30 AM - 11:30 AM, nights and weekends as required.
Special Requirements
- Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug test.
- Must possess a valid State of Texas Drivers License Class “C” and good driving record as defined by City policy.
- Must obtain CPR and First Aid Certification within 6 months of employment
- Current Certified Park and Recreation Professional or Executive (CPRP or CPRE) preferred
