POSITION TYPE: Hybrid with remote work flexibility. Ideally, candidates will be based near Washington DC, or Baltimore MD.

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

A senior lawyer who is a highly qualified attorney handling complex legal matters and projects on behalf of the Company. This position supports Constellation’s competitive energy generation and wholesale and retail customer-serving businesses. Key responsibilities may include providing legal regulatory support for strategic initiatives and growth opportunities and supporting generation, energy trading, and retail energy regulatory compliance activities.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Under minimal supervision, plans, conducts and supervises complex legal assignments, necessitating ability to evaluate matters which may have a major bearing on the conduct of the Company’s business; evaluates both legal and business risks and advises clients accordingly. Interprets and applies organization policy according to law. Represents Constellation in agency proceedings and/or relevant litigation.
2. Prepares, and revises as necessary, budgets and early matter assessments for all matters involving outside counsel.
3. Provides lead direction and/or project leadership direction to less experienced attorneys and support staff.
4. Projects / duties as assigned.

Qualifications

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS

Minimum:
  • An LLB or JD from an accredited law school and be licensed to practice law in the relevant jurisdictions.
  • At least 5 to 8 years of professional experience in a specialized area of law.
  • Possesses and applies a comprehensive knowledge of principles, practices and procedures of the legal field to the completion of complex assignments.
  • Requires excellent legal research, analytical abilities and on ongoing knowledge of federal or state law.
  • Must have the ability to communicate clearly – both orally and in writing; to read and analyze legal materials and other data; to work in stressful conditions under time deadlines.

Preferred:
  • Experience with federal (i.e., FERC, DOE) energy policies, rules, and regulations applicable to wholesale energy markets
  • Experience with ISO/RTO rules applicable to operating electric generation assets
  • Experience with physical and financial energy trading markets
  • Experience with competitive retail energy products and services and related state commission regulations
  • Experience with federal and/or state requirements applicable to government contracts
