The James Beard Foundation PLATFORM is a mission-centered showcase kitchen, event, dining and culinary demonstration space, as well as a vendor kiosk featuring a rotating calendar of visiting guest chefs. PLATFORM, which includes event space for up to 80 guests, is situated within the new Pier 57 Food Hall, home to 17 additional culinary kiosk vendors serving as an incubator for local small businesses and food entrepreneurs aligned with the Foundation’s mission of championing a standard of good food anchored in talent, equity, and sustainability.

Great Performances, which will operate PLATFORM, is a leading hospitality management company with a commitment to collaborative service, innovation and quality. The woman owned business serving New York City for over 40 years is as renowned for its events catering as for its food service in celebrated New York City cultural institutions, including Jazz at Lincoln Center, Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Apollo Theater and others. Great Performances is the nation’s first caterer to own and operate its own organic farm, Katchkie Farm, located in Kinderhook, NY. Focus
The ideal candidate is a seasoned manager who can develop and direct food and beverage program with quality products and ensuring high hospitality standards are met. Educate and coach all employees on food, beverage and hospitality standards. Oversee front and back of house food service operations for quick service food hall and event space to include pop up restaurants, tasting kitchen, and catered events
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following
- Oversees safety standards of kitchen and food items assuring freshness and quality of menu items
- Oversees employees maintain NYC Department of Health guidelines
- Perform administrative tasks, including weekly and monthly financials
- Maintain budgets for food, beverage and labor costs
- Knowledge of company computer program Caterxpert
- Responsible for system succession planning/employee development/diversity initiatives/training/constructive counseling
- Maintain and develop client relationships and client satisfaction for all aspects of operation to ensure account retention
- Prioritize venue operations and reports to meet compliance and deadlines
- Foster a climate of cooperation and respect between all team members
- Understand and evaluate information to meet objectives

Knowledge, Experience and Criteria
- 3-5 years prior food and beverage management experience
- Hospitality Management Degree or Equivalent Preferred
- Experience overseeing multi-unit operations including event operations with food service corporation/restaurant/and or hotel
- Effective communication both verbally and written with all levels of employees, guests, vendors and clients in a professional and courteous manner
- Ability to manage culinary team and front of house operations
- Proven ability to control food and labor cost within the department
- Anticipate and identify problem areas and implement effective solutions
- Proficient in computer programs, specifically excel
- Knowledge of POS operating systems and programming
- Knowledge of NYC Health Department guidelines, including safe temperature at which ingredients must be kept and to which food must be prepared to avoid foodborne illness
- New York City Food Handler’s Certificate will be required within one month of employment
- Calm and professional demeanor to work in a high-stress, fast paced environment
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for at least 8 hours
- Ability to execute all duties and responsibilities in a safe and timely manner
