We are looking for an experienced grower to help produce annuals, perennials, and color items primarly for our own garden store. Looking for a skilled, sucessful hands on grower of annuals, baskets, fall mums and points.

Requirements and duties include the following:

Growing Responsibilities

· Responsible for plant quality and growth from time of receiving liners until time of sale including receiving, planting, pruning, spacing, nutrition, cold protection, and meeting overall standards for sale.

· Maintain regular presence in field and greenhouses. Manage and work closely with field supervisor to prioritize daily tasks. Ensure that growing activities are completed on time. This is not a desk job.

· Consult with Head Grower to troubleshoot problems.

· Manage field scout, scout crops weekly for pests and disease, and review scouting reports. Provide the Plant Health Manager with scouting reports. Discuss with Plant Health Manager any plant health issues and possible measures to improve plant health and quality.

· Manage plant growthusing PGR’s and ensure proper growing conditions through weekly pH and EC field tests of growing media. Determine and oversee corrective action as needed.

· Manage irrigation and water quality for assigned growing areas.

· Work with Inventory Manager to determine crop status.

· Respond to questions from sales team and customers.

· Receive plant deliveries and check plant material for accuracy, quality, and health.

· Manage annual and perennial tag inventories

Administrative Responsibilities

· Assist Head Grower with orders for custom and branded tags and containers.

· Communicate plug quality and quantity issues to vendors and Head Grower.

· Maintain weekly list of product available for the garden store. Assist in stocking store with fresh annual, perennial and color product daily as needed.

Miscellaneous Responsibilities

· Attend conferences, meetings, and organizations the company deems necessary and report on new ideas learned.

· Assist Head Color Grower with other tasks as needed.

· Must be willing to perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications:

· Must be able to obtain a Oregon Private Pesticide Applicator License.

· Prefer at least a 2-year college degree and 2 years of horticultural experience or 5 years of horticultural experience.

· Must have strong working knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook as well as other computer skills. Must have excellent math skills.

· Prefer someone that can speak Spanish or willing to learn to speak Spanish.

· Must be physically capable of performing the responsibilities and requirements of this position.

· Must have good organizational skills, be able to prioritize workload, and have flexibility as work demands change.

· Must have excellent communication skills and be able to effectively work with other staff members.

· Must have a strong work ethic and willingness to work with others.

· Must be willing to work outside in all types of weather and may work independently in the nursery.

· Must be willing to work Saturdays on a rotating schedule and after hours, as necessary.

· Must have a valid OR Driver’s License.

Supervisor: This position answers directly to the Head Grower

Start Date: As soon as a suitable candidate is identified.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 - $30.00 per hour
