What you will be doing:

• Perform a broad range of functions to support a growing legal department that reports to the General Counsel
• Support the legal department and business functions on various matters relating to partnerships, joint ventures, and acquisitions
• Assist business stakeholders with acquisitions, commercial transactions, litigation, employment, real estate, and other legal matters
• Maintain current and up-to-date knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and standards
• Protect the company from legal risks and develop strategies for risk-mitigation
• Assist with corporate governance, policies, procedures, and programs
• Oversee support staff, paralegals, and outside lawyers hired to assist the company

Who we are:

Veterinary Practice Partners (VPP) co-owns veterinary clinics with veterinarians, providing business and management support to help them run the business efficiently. Once a partnership is formed, VPP provides support and leadership for marketing, financial, operations and human resources functions while the veterinarian leads the clinical and client service functions.

What you need to be considered:

• A juris doctorate (JD) degree with at least 3 years of experience with a law firm or in-house legal department
• Licensed to practice law in any state and member in good standing of a state bar association
• An understanding of corporate, employment, and/or real estate leasing laws
• Working knowledge of (or willingness to learn) new subject matters and areas of law
• Exceptional organization skills and strong attention to detail
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate and collaborate with individuals at all levels in and out of the organization
• Ability to effectively communicate, collaborate and deliver an excellent work product in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Creative problem-solving skills and positive attitude
• To reside in the state of California
