Department Summary
The Department of Physiology and Anatomy is home to researchers with a wide variety of interests and approaches. The Department is truly integrative as all faculty are engaged in interdisciplinary studies that span molecular, cellular, systems and behavioral sciences, with strong traditions of excellence in the study of cardiovascular, renal and neural-humoral control systems. The research activities of many of our faculty and graduate students involve studies of normal physiology such as exercise and travel to altitude as well as pathophysiological states such as heart failure, hypertension, cardiopulmonary bypass surgery, diabetes, obesity and sleep apnea.

Position Summary
The University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC), is one of the nation’s distinguished graduate academic health science centers, located in the charming Cultural District of Fort Worth, Texas. The Department of Physiology and Anatomy has a long and outstanding track record of commitment to impactful biomedical research, robust education of future health care providers, exceptional graduate training, and community outreach. The department currently consists of 25 faculty with diverse interest spanning highly integrative research in many areas of cardiovascular health and disease, including specific expertise in exercise, neural control, sleep apnea, biomechanics, renal injury, pregnancy, lupus, anthropologic science, hypertension, temperature regulation, endocrine biology, women’s health, obesity, and diabetes. Departmental research is supported by many extramural sources, including the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the American Heart Association, and numerous private foundations. The department is also home to the Center for Anatomical Sciences, which is dedicated to training medical, allied health, and graduate students in the anatomical sciences. The Department of Physiology and Anatomy offers a collegial and collaborative environment where faculty, post-doctoral fellows, students, administrators, and staff work together to promote a vibrant atmosphere for scientific discovery. This position is for either an Associate or Assistant professor based on the preferred candidate’s level of experience.

Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in a relevant discipline
Two years or more teaching experience in Higher Education, in a face-to-face or online setting.
Demonstrated experience in curriculum and course development and assessment.

Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to the candidates with following additional qualifications:
  • Five years of experience at the Assistant Professor level in an academic research environment
  • Extramural funding and independent publications competitive for career stage and rank.
  • Experience with integrative molecular, cellular, and systems level research in mechanisms of cardiovascular and/or neural control in health and disease.
  • Experience in mentoring of undergraduate, M.S., Ph.D. students and post-doctoral trainees.
  • Management experience overseeing research lab staff-members.
