Required Qualifications:

Candidates will have:

• Demonstrated scholarship investigating motor speech disorders, voice, resonance, or closely related areas, either in adults exclusively, or as part of a lifespan approach to studying communication disorders.
• Demonstrated ability to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including general-interest courses, courses on clinical topics, and courses in the candidate’s area of specialization.
• A Ph.D. in Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences and Disorders, Neuroscience, Psychology, Education, or other related discipline by the start date.

Preferred Qualifications include:

• The ability to teach courses on the clinical assessment and treatment of voice disorders, resonance disorders, and/or acquired speech motor disorders.
• A research program that includes culturally and linguistically diverse populations.
• We encourage applications from scholars who study communication in a variety of modalities, including those who study augmentative/alternative communication in individuals with motor speech disorders, voice disorders, and/or resonance disorders.
• Clinical experience in speech-language pathology, with eligibility for Minnesota Department of Health/Education licensure or Minnesota Professional Educators Licensing and Standards Board, and ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence.

Candidates will be evaluated according to the overall quality of their academic preparation, evidence of research and scholarly competence, potential for obtaining external research funding, evidence of commitment to and skills in teaching, and strength of recommendations. Candidates will also be evaluated according to evidence of attention to cultural diversity in teaching, research, and/or service and the proven ability to contribute to the University’s commitment to equity and diversity.

The Department of Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning in fall semester of 2023. We are searching for a scholar whose work focuses on motor speech disorders, voice, resonance, or closely related areas. Appointment will be 100% time over the nine-month academic year (late-August to late-May). Appointment will be made at the rank of tenure-track assistant professor, depending on qualifications and experience, and consistent with collegiate and University policy.

Faculty in the Department of Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences in the College of Liberal Arts are expected to maintain an active program of scholarly research; to develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses; to advise BA, MA, AuD, and/or PhD students; and contribute service to the department, college, university, and profession.

Department Overview:

The department offers internationally recognized programs in speech-language hearing sciences (BA, Ph.D.), speech-language pathology (M.A.), and audiology (Au.D.) that provide outstanding opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to pursue academic, educational, and clinical careers. The department hosts a Bilingual Multicultural Emphasis Certificate Program for graduate students in speech-language pathology and audiology. Faculty research and teaching are strongly supported at the unit and collegiate levels. Interdisciplinary collaborations abound across the university. Many faculty collaborate with university-wide centers, including the Center for Cognitive Sciences, the Center for Applied and Translational Sensory Sciences, The Masonic Institute on the Developing Brain, and the Center for Clinical Movement Disorders.
