Job Objective: In support of the company mission, the goal of the Assistant Program Manager (APM) is to provide managerial and operational redundancy to the program, under the direction of the ProgramManager (PM). On a day-to-day basis the APM handles many of the behind-the-scenes details to allow the PM to maintain a big picture focus. The APM is trained, and has managerial authority, to provide operational continuation of business in the PM’s planned or unplanned absence.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Attend regular meetings with Program Manager to stay on the same page and monitor goals;
  • Take bottom-line responsibility for smooth functioning of the operations in the PM’s absence;
  • Act in coordination with the PM to supervise all in-town and field staff;
  • Address disciplinary and performance concerns as needed;
  • Assist with new-hire trainings as directed;
  • Set up guide briefing and paperwork packets;
  • Track important items issued to field staff in Salesforce;
  • Ensure that all trip leaders receive a pre-trip briefing and pertinent materials;
  • Ensure all field staff are educated to, and have resources for, permit compliance;
  • Ensure adequate 24/7 field support, duties as needed;
  • Collect, approve, organize and submit trip/program expense forms;
  • Review and approve payroll;
  • Submit Overhead Expense Reports with Payroll Bi-Weekly;
  • Continuous review of credit card and vehicle key inventory and track down missing items;
  • Maintain stock lists and order as necessary to ensure food pantry, first aid, warehouse and office supplies are stocked to Minimum Operating Standards;
  • Ensure fleet assets meet company Minimum Operating Standards, including performing inspections and reporting problems to PM;
  • Restock/recharge first aid kits, epi kits, and communication device kits;
  • Delegate work accordingly to warehouse assistants. Must personally accomplish all chores regardless of warehouse assistant availability;
  • Act as “Safety Officer” for the facility to ensure the following: ladder safety, Material Safety Data

Sheet availability and access, fire extinguisher inspections, proper chemical storage, safety equipment availability, other OSHA compliance;

  • Ensure gear repair occurs in a timely and efficient manner;
  • Maintain t-shirt inventory and ordering as needed;
  • Inventory tracking duties for purchases and transfers as needed;
  • Contribute to Annual Staff evaluations;
  • Arrange and facilitate vehicle maintenance and repairs as needed;

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Field evacuations and shuttle driving;
  • Maintain system of communicating which vehicles are cleared for use in the field and which are not;
  • Shadow or join trips that are unfamiliar in order to learn how to best run them as approved;
  • Respond to sales inquiries as requested;
  • Marketing and program development;
  • Maintaining knowledge of permit and reservation systems; assisting PM with permits and reservations;
  • Work with PM to ensure local DOT and other agency transportation requirements are met, including CPUC drug testing program for safety sensitive positions;
  • Vehicle transfer duties as needed;
  • General Mariposa, CA company property maintenance including trash and recycling, light handyman work, painting, mowing, weeding, building maintenance, cleaning, snow removal, and fire clearance
  • Other duties and projects as assigned by the Program Manager;

Qualifications:

  • Strong supervisory, facilitation, organization, written, and verbal communication skills;
  • Proficiency with Google Drive apps, Microsoft Office and previous experience with a CRM system;
  • This position requires ability to frequently lift, push and pull weights up to fifty (50) lbs, as well as frequent bending, stooping, and squatting over the course of a full work shift. Duties require fine manual dexterity to perform basic tasks;
  • Physical capability to meet company and DOT driving requirements and maintain current

Wilderness First Responder and CPR Highly Desired

  • Must pass a background check;
  • Ability to pass a drug test;

Working Conditions and Housing: This job is based in Mariposa, CA and is full-time, seasonal at an average of 35 hours a week from April -Sept Hours can vary weekly based on number of trips in the field and program needs. A willingness to maintain a flexible schedule and work weekends and/or holidays is necessary.

The APM position, during the period of April-Sept in which the APM is scheduled to work, housing is available in the main Mariposa house downstairs. This will include a private bedroom and closet with a shared bathroom. The APM can stay at the property on non-working days during the season from April-Sept at a reasonable discretion determined by the Program Manager.   • Base Pay Rate: $20/hr, pay band $20-22.05/hr
