About This Role: The Agronomy Department at Kansas State University is seeking to hire a motivated individual as an Assistant Scientist to join its sorghum breeding program at Manhattan. The successful candidate will assume responsibility of managing main season and winter breeding nurseries, greenhouse experiments management of seed laboratory and part time students. Specific responsibilities include but not limited to preparing and packaging seeds for field and greenhouse experiments, planting and management of nurseries, field and greenhouse data collection, pollination, harvesting and threshing of experimental samples as well as maintenance of seed inventory. The ideal candidate will have good planning and organizational skills and willing to work in the field during summer months and travel to winter nursery twice a year. The candidate also should have skill and experience operating farm machinery including tractors, combines and small plot sprayer machines.

What You'll Need to Succeed: Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree

Preferred Qualifications:
BS in Agronomy, Genetics, Plant Breeding, or related field.
MS in Plant Breeding
Experience and skill with operating farm machines, ability to operate or learn to operate farm tractors, combines and small equipment for planting, cultivating and spraying research nurseries
Ability to load and haul tractors to and from research fields.
Work experience in plant breeding program.
