Job Title: Assistant Vice Provost for Online Education
Department: Academic Affairs
Reports to: Associate Vice Provost of Academic Affairs**
FLSA STATUS: Salaried, Exempt
Benefits: The University's comprehensive benefits program
Days & Hours: Monday through Friday, 37.5 hours per week. Standard work schedule is 9:00 am to 5:30 PM, may be adjusted. Flexible schedule may require evening and weekend hours during peak periods.
Location: This position is hybrid and will require in-person availability
BASIC FUNCTION AND SCOPE OF JOB:
The Assistant Vice Provost for Online Education reports to the Associate Vice Provost of Academic Affairs and is a member of the Academic Affairs team. The Assistant Vice Provost for Online Education provides strategic and operational oversight for online services and online teaching and learning; and consults with senior leadership, academic deans, and faculty on online education initiatives.
BASIC FUNCTION AND SCOPE OF JOB:

  • Lead and supervise instructional designers and provide ongoing feedback for personal and professional development.
  • Develop and implement a unified approach to online course quality based on widely accepted standards such as those created by Quality Matters.
  • Develop and execute in partnership with key stakeholders a plan for comprehensive faculty onboarding.
  • Improve student experience in using GGU’s online learning platforms considering current technologies used in online learning.
  • Lead online/hybrid education training and continuing education for faculty; facilitate faculty development workshops in online teaching and student-centered learning.
  • Identify and implement best practices for online/hybrid learning pedagogy to ensure the quality and effectiveness of online/hybrid education course design.
  • Position the staff in leadership roles internally and with educational partners to leverage their experience and expertise for the University.
  • Ensure the online programs comply with federal and state regulations, WSCUC, and other regulatory agencies including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Communicate effectively in a professional, tactful, and courteous manner with students, employees, faculty, and the public.
  • Use data for enrollment planning, budget development and forecasting, assessment and continual improvement, and decision making, planning, and reporting.
  • Support the academic development of adult and emerging student populations in online education with the goal of improving online retention.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate should have a master's degree or higher in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field and a minimum of five years of experience in planning and administration of online and distance education initiatives in a university or college setting is required.
The candidate must also have demonstrated expertise and experience in the following:

  • Effective and innovative pedagogical application of technology to online/hybrid course delivery including use of instructional design principles,
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence with experience serving adult populations.
  • Direct experience with adaptation of curriculum to an online/hybrid format,
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing online/hybrid delivery programs in a Learning Management System (Canvas, Moodle or other),
  • Knowledge of and experience with technologies and best practices in adult and online education
  • Experience with collaborative leadership of an organization including managing online/hybrid initiatives,
  • Experience with program assessment and data-based reporting,
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
