The UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville is seeking an Assistant, Associate or Professor, to serve as Associate Chief Medical Information Officer (ACMIO). The ACMIO is a key delegate of the UF Health Chief Medical Informatics Officer, and will partner with clinical and operational leaders at UF Health in Jacksonville to provide effective leadership and strategic/tactical direction in the areas of assessing, development and implementation of clinical information systems. In this role, he/she guides multi-disciplinary clinical and technical teams to implement the build required to pursue the goals established by clinicians and leadership. The ACMIO is a steward for the adoption of informatics best practices, and will work hand in hand with his/her fellow ACMIO’s across UF campuses. This is a full-time (0.5 FTE – ACMIO; 0.50 FTE clinical), non-tenured track faculty position.

UF Health physicians offer primary care and specialty services in practices throughout Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia, tallying more than 650,000 outpatient visits and more than 40,000 inpatient admissions annually.

UF Health in Jacksonville, Florida, is comprised of:

  • UF Health Jacksonville, an academic health center near Downtown Jacksonville and home to the area's only adult and pediatric Level I trauma program
  • UF Health North, a 92-bed hospital and outpatient medical campus in North Jacksonville
  • UF Health Science Center Jacksonville, which encompasses three UF colleges in Jacksonville: Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy
  • UF Jacksonville Physicians, Inc., a network of primary and specialty care centers offering exceptional patient care throughout Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia

ACMIO Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Top of License
    • Sponsor workflows and technologies that automate tasks to free highly reliable people to focus on higher value work as a result of implementing highly reliable processes.
  • Top EHR design
    • Promote the incorporation of national best practices in the EHR design
    • Guide EHR design to incorporate forward looking EHR architecture to address the rapid and continuous change in technology
    • Engage physicians/APPs and other key users in support of IT initiatives.
    • Provide guidance to the IT team in the design, construct and evaluation of EHR implantation. This may include but not limited to: core clinical systems, clinical workflows, clinical training, and documentation.
    • Sponsor the usability methodology in the evaluation of intake requests
  • Provider and staff engagement
    • Lead and facilitate physician, APP, Nurse, Clinical Staff, and Pharmacy advisory groups in the design of clinical systems to support excellence in patient care and research.
    • Optimize user training to assure widespread acceptance and use of the clinical systems.
    • Partner with clinical and operational leadership on the design and optimization of clinical pathways and research models.
  • Patient outcomes, including safety quality and results
    • Partner with Quality, Safety and Subject Matter Experts in support of relevant practice initiatives.
    • Promote evidence based medicine in the EHR.
    • Identify opportunities to enhance efficiency for clinicians and improve quality of care with newer, cost-effective technology.
    • Sponsor the incorporation/reporting of data to proactively monitor, revise and automate best practices to improve quality and patient safety.
  • Patient participation
    • Optimize patient portal, telehealth and digital health initiatives
    • Sponsor the EHR design around patient perspective work flows from beginning to end of experience.
  • Guidance for enterprise, campus, department, specialty strategies and initiatives
    • Provide clinical and IT partnership in the planning, development, strategic and operational settings.
    • Leverage enterprise opportunities to the benefit of the clinical areas
    • Provide trusted advice and assistance to campus leaders concerning local initiatives.
    • Represent their campus (JAX, GNV, CF) needs for requests, projects and strategies.

  • Possesses solid practical experience in system design and implementation within the framework of technical boundaries and limitations.
  • Excels at developing flexible, transferable models for pathways of care.

    • Outstanding clinical, technical, and leadership skills and will actively collaborate with clinical and support service lines.
    • Understanding of major trends in healthcare and managed care, and be familiar with point of care products and medical informatics trends and tools.
    • Experience leading a large clinical program, service line, or medical facility.
    • Knowledge in the areas of management and systems improvement concepts.
    • Skills in implementing organizational strategies to improve healthcare delivery.
    • Extensive experience with performance measures and driving clinical excellence via metrics.
    • Performed successfully in a matrix organizational environment.
  • Must be able to perform effectively in a geographically diverse, complex multi-facility network.

Minimum Requirements:

Minimum Requirements:

  • MD or DO degree required.
  • Candidate must be able to obtain a license to practice medicine in the state of Florida.
  • Board certification in American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) medical specialty.
  • ABMS Member Certification in Clinical Informatics preferred.

Professional Experience Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of direct health IT deployment and optimization experience required.
  • Physician practice experience in service line or platform
