Associate Director of Food Systems

Mission: Cultivating environmentally sound, economically viable, community-focused farms and food systems

Position overview: Pasa’s food systems work is broad in scope and touches all project and program areas. The Associate Director of Food Systems will be both visionary in their approach and focused on operationalizing that vision in a manner that prioritizes farmers as key stakeholders. This position will advance local food systems programs and services, including the Foodshed Mapping Project, the Farm & Food Worker Relief Program and, (pending) the Regional Food Business Centers cooperative agreement. The Associate Director of Food Systems will be overseen by the Director of Programs & Services.

This is a primarily remote position with some in-person workdays and 3-5 annual in-person staff meetings and retreats. All employees are required to attend our annual Sustainable Agriculture Conference, which takes place each February in Lancaster, PA. Employees must comply with Pasa’s remote employee policies.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, prioritize, and communicate regional food system needs and opportunities
  • Integrate diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice (DEIJ) into all program areas
  • In collaboration with technology staff, explore design needs of a food systems database to include all aspects of the food system: food, farms, distribution, fiber, labor, climate, land access, businesses, etc.
  • Cultivate opportunities for socially disadvantaged, historically underserved, new, and beginning growers
  • Explore and assess marketing opportunities for farms utilizing research findings like soil health and nutrient density benchmarks
  • Work with Pasa’s Communications team to develop accessible outreach materials
  • Supervise Food Systems team members
  • Contribute to relevant grant writing, tracking, and reporting
  • Represent Pasa on various committees and boards
  • Connect food systems topics, speakers, and initiatives to seasonal events and annual policy work.

Qualifications

  • Exemplary equity-focused supervisory approach; commitment to maintaining a supportive, functional, service-oriented workplace
  • Practical food systems experience
  • Demonstrated outreach or work with historically underserved communities and/or growers
  • Understanding or knowledge of federal, state, and local resources for growers
  • Project management, team management, and/or grant management experience

Preferred qualifications

  • Professional working proficiency in Spanish and English

Compensation: This is a full-time exempt position. Annual salary is based on experience and is negotiable within the range of $58,000 to $70,000. Benefits include health, vision, and dental insurance; 401K retirement match; flexible scheduling; twelve paid holidays; and a generous leave policy. A work computer is provided, and work-related travel expenses are reimbursed.
