POSITION SUMMARY

The Associate Director, Oral Health Project is primarily an internal facing administrative and operations position responsible for assisting the project leadership with day-to-day management of the Program.

The Program is comprised of two projects. The Dental Therapy Project (DTP) focuses on expanding the dental team to include a community-based practitioner called a dental therapist. The Dental Access Project (DAP) works to build consumer leadership and a strong, organized consumer voice to shape oral health policy at the federal, state and local levels. Both projects are rooted in health equity and are focused on elevating community voice to improving the oral health outcomes of underserved communities.

The Associate Director will take direction from the project leadership and work with the team to help oversee and implement the goals of the program. The individual in this position will provide leadership and focus on internal operations and help shape the future direction of the Program. The Associate Director will also play a leadership role within the organization, representing the department across internal teams and projects, helping to align the project with the new strategic direction of the organization. The individual will need to work with colleagues across the organization and think about how various initiatives intersect and how we coordinate and collaborate within the organization.

The individual is expected to support team to consistently provide excellent service to our external partners as well as represent the needs and goals of those partners within the organization. Where needed, the individual will also need to build relationships with external partners – including state and community-based organizations that we work with to improve oral health. The below responsibilities are the key responsibilities for this position, however the scope of the job responsibilities are likely to evolve as the project leadership identify the best way to advance our oral health work.

Supervision: The Associate Director will report to the Director of the dental access program

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work closely with project leadership to implement the strategic direction and aligning the program with the new strategic plan.
• Manage the day-to-day operations of the Program and to develop plans and strategies to meet short and long-term program goals
• Oversee systems improvement process to ensure timely, accurate production of outward and inward facing materials
• Monitor incoming grants and outgoing sub-granting program to ensure compliance with foundation requirements for multiple grants, including reporting
• Participate in resource development and potential management of new funding opportunities, including targeted prospecting and grant writing
• Assist with the development and maintenance of contracts and reporting for external consultants
• Work as part of team to serve as a resource for both projects; helping to ensure that a level of excellence is achieved and maintained and our core principles as an organization are followed
• Represent the team in identified organization and cross-departmental discussions and help oversee the integration of the Project priorities into broader state consumer system of advocacy
• Lead and manage internal and external project evaluation efforts
• Participate in management of relationships with state based-partner organizations managing day-to-day relationships, grants and program requirements as needed
• Monitor and manage federal partner and policy opportunities that leverage and advance Program goals
• Represent project and work with external partners
• Assists with administrative management/oversight of department
• Participates and/or leads teams as necessary
• Perform other duties as necessary to achieve the goals of the department
• Provide training for new staff/others in organization around the program’s work
• Some occasional travel might be required
• Supervises staff

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree plus at least 10 years relevant work experience
• Exceptional organization, written and oral communication skills
• Proven supervisory experience including skills in leadership, relationship development, staff management and team building
• Ability to prioritize and oversee multiple tasks with high attention to detail
• Demonstrated program management and oversight
• Experience creating and successful implementation of policies and systems to improve team/project functioning
• Experience with processes related to resource development including tracking deliverables, proposal writing and report writing
• Demonstrated experience working and managing relationships with funders
• Demonstrated ability to identify and generate new ideas and implement those ideas to help improve program/project functioning
• Demonstrated understanding of the needs of the program and partners and proven ability to address those needs
• Versatile team player with strong collaboration, conflict management and administrative/management skills
• Demonstrated ability to apply lessons from TA and state experiences to inform and shape ideas within and across programs
• Understanding of health policy issue(s) and the understanding of different of the connections between state political environments and effects on advocacy and policy campaigns a plus

• Salary Range: $68,959 - $91,458

• Location: Flexible, can be based anywhere with the USA. If the employee is not based on the East Coast, flexibility in supporting different time zones may be required.
