Job Summary

Our Regulatory Science Organization is seeking a highly motivated and self-driven contractor to help manage the 2023 Regulatory Science field testing program at the Mason, MI hub. The candidate will work alongside the Field-Testing Scientist and provide program oversite implementing all aspects of corn and soybean field and lab research operations that support the submission and registration of our biotech traits pipeline.

Job Description

Responsibilities may include:

• Preparing fields, planting, rogueing, pollinating, sampling, harvesting, threshing, preparing seed, and other activities related to crops and fields.
• Assist in small plot maintenance and pesticide applications.
• Tractor, powered equipment, and laboratory scale equipment operation
• Package, ship, and inventory sample and warehouse materials
• Assistance in the maintenance and improvement of farm assets
• Scout field sites for volunteer monitoring and compliance
• Driving DOT vehicles and trailering
• Maintain equipment in research ready condition.
• The position will require coordination of seasonal support staff while functioning as member of the crew adhering to all client SOPs when carrying out required tasks.
• Collaboration will be required with other Regulatory Science field testing members, as well as other internal teams to facilitate research activities.
• Individuals must be detail-oriented and able to work independently and in team environments, taking direction from scientist and supervisors.
• Excellent communication skills will be required to maintain contact with land lease contractors, vendors, and compliance with agency and Client's stewardship standards.
• The position requires 100% commitment to all safety protocols and maintaining regulatory compliance.
• Working under adverse weather conditions (heat, humidity, cold) will be required as majority of field activities occur outdoors.
• Physical labor components may include lifting over 25 lbs., standing for prolonged periods, repetitive job tasks, walking on uneven surfaces, and require ability to perform tasks both at, below, and above waste level (bending and reaching).
• Extended hours may be required during peak seasons.

Skills Required

• Experience with applied agricultural field research
• Experience with farm equipment operation
• Knowledge and ability to use handheld PC and/or iOS devices.
• Valid driver’s license in good standing
• Currently or able to obtain MDARD commercial pesticide applicators license.
• Current DOT operator or ability to obtain certification.
• Compliance with all safety/quality/regulatory requirements
• Detail-oriented with excellent time management, organizational, and analytical skills

Desired Skills

• B.S. degree in agricultural field

• Applied knowledge of regional crop production

• Experience with small plot data collection

• Class A CDL holder

• sUAS licensed operator

Additional Requirements

• Must be able to pass drug screen & criminal background check.
• Worker Shift Start Time: AM - 07:00 AM
• Is driving required for this position? Yes - DOT Driver - truck and / or trailer GVWR of 10,001 - 26,000 lbs.
