Associate Vice President, Life and Annuity Internal Sales/ Field Leadership Development Program
Location: Montpelier, VT or Addison, TX
This leadership position plays a critical role in the support and growth of our Life and Annuity business by providing leadership to Internal Sales Desk Teams that focus on support activities for our field leaders and key agency relationships. They are located primarily in Addison, TX and Montpelier, VT. This leader will provide strategic inputs, tactical plans for the day-to-day operation of the Sales Desk and leadership development aligned with Corporate and Distribution goals. In addition, this leader will be responsible for Conservation and Illustration Services by finding unique opportunities to create solutions that work best with a client’s changing needs.
Another key responsibility for this leader centers around development of Internal Sales Associates who aspire to be future Key Accounts Representatives and eventually Field Leaders with our organization. These individuals start their career as an Internal Sales Associate on the Sales Desk while they learn about National Life Group, our products and key initiatives. This is also where they begin to develop relationships with our Field Leaders and Distribution Partners. From there, successful individuals are considered for Key Account opportunities where they expand their learning into the field in order to develop skills around recruiting and solutions that support our key relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Establishes, implements, and communicates the strategic direction of the Internal Sales Desk, collaborating with other divisions and departments to carry out the organization’s goals and objectives.
- Provides leadership to ensure all activities are consistent with our goals, guidelines and culture by monitoring trends and evolving our strategy to keep up with changing customer expectations.
- Ensures that departmental decisions, project plans, and budgets such as those for staffing, development, and team execution align across the larger team.
- Proactively partners with distribution leadership and external agencies to improve presence, solve problems, surface training opportunities, and gather feedback to continually improve the agent and customer experience driving critical value creation and competitive differentiation in the marketplace.
- Develops teams and leaders, providing coaching on growth and career planning to aid in succession management.
- Develops and maintains productivity and quality standards through audit and other review mechanisms to ensure policy, procedures, and objectives are carried out.
- Actively participates in internal dialog with Marketing, Distribution, Operations, Finance, and other key areas to drive overall business results and surface patterns in agent or customer behaviors.
- Identifies, recommends, and implements new processes, technologies, and systems with the goal of improving the use of resources and materials.
- Maintains knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in Life insurance and Annuity operations and serves on industry committees to share knowledge and increase visibility of the National Life Group brand.
Critical Skills and Experience Requirements
The qualified candidate will have substantial experience in Annuity/Life Insurance Sales or Sales Support activities marked by strong business relationships, skilled leadership and business results. Must have 10+ years leadership experience and a Bachelor’s degree, with a strong academic record. Advanced education (Masters) is preferred.

- Must be able to successfully pass a background check
The base compensation range represents the low and high end of the compensation range for this position. Actual compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to qualifications, skills, competencies, location, and experience. The range listed is just one component of our total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include an annual bonus, quarterly bonuses, commissions, and other long-term incentive compensation, depending on the position.
