Overview of the Role:

The Athletic Manager manages the day-to-day operations of the PJCCs Fitness and Sport and Recreation departments. The AM will lead the team in creating and implementing best of class programs that provide excellence in quality, customer service, safety, and cleanliness. The AM will support and grow the Personal Training program through active recruiting, training, development, engagement, promotion, and strategic planning. The AM is responsible for all Sport and Recreational programming to include activities such as badminton, basketball, pickleball, volleyball and any additionally developed Byer Athletic Center offerings for adults, children, teens, and families. The AM is responsible for providing onsite leadership and supervision of Personal Trainers, Fitness Floor Attendants, and outside vendors. The AM also ensures the team meets budgeted department goals and is responsible for all matters pertaining to equipment and safety on the fitness floor and in all sport and recreation areas.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Supervise Fitness team, including Personal Trainers and Fitness Floor Attendants, including hiring, scheduling, setting expectations, coaching, and providing feedback.
  • Develop and manage Sport and Recreation programs, working with internal staff and outside vendors as appropriate.
  • Meet monthly and yearly revenue targets through ongoing development of Personal Training, Fitness and Sport and Recreation programing.
  • Manage the new member FIT evaluation process: Work directly with PJCC Fitness clients to understand goals and recommend Personal Trainer who can best support those goals.
  • Perform fitness assessments (movement and posture assessments, body composition tests, etc) as requested by members.
  • Manage the CRM system as it relates to the Fitness Team.
  • Complete payroll twice monthly.
  • Work with Marketing to produce a monthly fitness e-mail.
  • Manage the development and operation of the Recovery Room.
  • Handle member questions, comments, and concerns daily and provide mediation between members/staff, members/members and staff/staff.
  • Work with fitness and housekeeping teams to ensure fitness floor cleanliness. Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly fitness floor, racking weights. Includes picking up loose towels, water bottles, cleaning equipment, etc.
  • Assist Senior Director of Wellness in creating yearly budget.
  • Attend weekly department head meetings, monthly managers and HR meetings, and company fitness meetings and required training.
  • Serve as a Manager On Duty to guide PJCC teams in responding to emergent situations.

Salary: $75k-$85k, with a bonus potential

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelors degree in exercise science, physical education, kinesiology, or related field required.
  • 2+ years work experience as a Personal Trainer.
  • 1 year work experience in fitness management preferred.
  • Previous experience developing and managing recreation and or/sport programming preferred.
  • Certified nationally accredited personal trainer certification such as ACE or NASM required.
  • CPR/AED certification.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated success working collaboratively and cooperatively with others, other departments within the organization and with other organizations and entities.
  • Willingness and eagerness to explore new ideas.
  • Process-driven with exceptional reporting and analytical skills are beneficial.
