Slonim Law is a well-established and expanding law firm seeking a highly-motivated, team-oriented Associate Attorney for our firm to join our Melbourne, FL office.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $65,000-$80,000/yr (based on experience) & End of year bonus
  • 2 weeks paid time off

Candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Member in good standing with The Florida Bar
  • Minimum of 3-5 years recent work experience in the elder law practice area
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel
  • Technologically adept
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Active in not-for-profit community support organizations

Role:

  • Provide proficient and timely legal representation to clients of the Firm accomplish this by supervising legal staff; delegating tasks to staff efficiently; maintain communication with clients;
  • Continuously develop & expand legal knowledge through research and legal education;
  • Ensure clients execute an attorney/client agreement; determine hourly/flat fee for client; establish flat fee rate with clients in accordance with Firm price sheet
  • Ensure funds held by Firm (from client) for costs are properly expended & recorded; ensure IOLTA is operated in accordance with Florida Bar rules
  • Properly record and bill time spent on client matters; ensure collection of fees for the Firm
  • Ensure legal staff is recording/billing their time expended on cases; identify any shortcomings in staff billing process and correct with staff

Actual experience in the following areas of law is required:

Estate Planning

Counseling individuals and families regarding, and preparing Last Wills, various trust types, and Advance Directives.

Actual experience in the following areas of law would be preferred but not required:

Legal In/Capacity Counseling (Guardianship)

Counseling regarding legal capacity and implementation of advice, including:

  • Advising how capacity is determined and the level of capacity of an individual
  • Guardian Advocacy for the developmentally disabled
  • Guardian of a minor
  • Courtroom litigation experience representing those who are or may be subject to guardianship

or conservatorship proceedings or other protective agreements

Probate and Trust Administration

Advising and implementing procedures related to probate and trust administration, including:

  • Procedures related to probate (formal, summary, and ancillary) administration, both testate and

Intestate, and trust administration

  • Knowledge of local county procedures related the aforementioned administrations
  • Good working knowledge of
  • Issues related to elective share
  • Issues related to homestead
  • Distribution of assets
  • Payment of obligations

Public Benefits Advice

Advising, planning for, and assisting in obtaining public benefits, for Florida Medicaid programs for seniors.

Real Estate

Ability to effectively assist clients in the areas of:

  • Negotiating, Drafting and Reviewing Real Estate Contracts
  • Drafting Documents Affecting Real Estate such as Deeds, Mortgages, and Easements
  • Foreclosures and Alternatives
  • Leases and Evictions/Ejectments
  • Quiet Title Actions
  • Construction Liens
  • Condominium and Homeowners Association Liens and Disputes
  • Tax Certificates and Deeds
  • Partitions
  • Homestead Issues
  • Easement and Boundary Issues
  • Non-Disclosure and Fraud

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
