Audio Production Specialist
Job Summary
Assist the Audio Manager in coordinating and meeting the audio needs for productions and events primarily within BYU’s College of Fine Arts and Communications (CFAC). This is a 3/4-time position (28hrs/wk).
Essential Functions
- Serve as an assistant to the Audio Manager in coordinating and managing audio personnel in supporting CFAC live audio and communication needs as follows (40%):
- Audio support of all public performances for the college and other CFAC facility users
- Audio recording of college meetings, convocations, performances, lectures, etc. not affiliated with the School of Music
- Management of backstage monitoring and communication systems
- Other audio production needs as they relate to the performing arts
- Provide technical support for productions and events as listed in function number 1 (35%):
- Provide lead audio engineering support (A1) for complex and “high-profile” performances
- Train and oversee other personnel at performances as time and other responsibilities allow
- Assist in organizing and maintaining audio equipment inventory (15%):
- Help ensure equipment is always in top working order
- Make recommendations to keep inventory in line with current technologies and trends
- Manage student crew when Audio Manager is on tour, vacation, or otherwise unavailable (10%):
Minimum education/experience required:
Five (5) or more years of professional A/V experience
Preferred education/experience:
Bachelors degree with three (3) or more years of professional A/V experience
Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications (please indicate whether “required” or “preferred”):
- Excellent interpersonal relationship skills; demonstrated negotiation skills and ability to remain consistently calm and collected in stressful situations (required)
- Ability to work and communicate expertly with composers, musicians, conductors, directors, dancers, producers, technicians, etc. (required)
- Ability to collaborate with designers and technicians in stage management, technical costuming/makeup, lighting, scenic, projection, sound, stage, and tours (required)
- Proven ability to train others, maintaining a positive working environment that also supports clients in a positive manner (required)
- Skill with live audio consoles, microphones, loudspeakers, and associated technologies (required)
- Skill in ProTools and/or other audio editing software (preferred)
- Skill in analog and digital wired and wireless communication systems (preferred)
- Skill in network and fiber audio distribution systems (preferred)
- Skill in network server technologies and file system management (preferred)
Employee Class: 3/4 Time (28 hour)
Work Location: Provo Campus
Environment: Rare presence of abnormal variations in temperature and exposure to outside conditions
Physical Exam Required: Y
Physical Exam Details: Physical effort represented by frequent handling of medium weight objects (approx. 20-50 lbs.) and materials, or use of medium weight hand tools. May require climbing and working from ladders or in awkward positions.

Approximate Starting Salary: $24.50 - $31.80 per hour DOQ
