ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Position Summary
Plans and designs manufacturing processes in industrial plant. Maximizes efficiency by analyzing layout of equipment, workflow, assembly methods, and work force utilization. Determines parts and tools needed in order to achieve manufacturing goals according to product specification.

Essential to this Position

Plant Engineer for automation initiatives within the manufacturing facility. Provide project management and technical leadership from conception through deployment of projects, processes, and procedures to effectively deliver automation replacement and enhancement projects in the plant.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership in the design, deployment, and maintenance of automation initiatives in the plant to improve quality, reduce operating costs, increase yield, and reduce downtime
  • Confer with Management, Marketing, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and prioritization of automation projects within the plant
  • Perform project management activities for significantly large projects, including new product development and major replacement, refurbishment, and integration opportunities with existing plant equipment
  • Conduct project management training and coaching for smaller projects. Monitor key plant projects to ensure attainment of scope, timing, budget, and desired outcome
  • Research new technology to support automation strategies and monitor industry trends
  • Select and grow plant relationships with equipment and third-party integrator vendors
  • Develop and deploy technical standards, training, operating procedures, and maintenance programs for current automation
  • Interface with plant resources and hourly technical personnel to optimize processes and improve skills

At least 2 years relevant experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, Or Abilities Desired
  • Knowledge of the existing and planned approaches and methods for manufacturing products or product components
  • Knowledge of methodologies, tools and techniques for designing, building and managing the manufacture of new products
  • Knowledge of the methodology and associated phases, activities and deliverables for the design of new products and the enhancement of existing products; ability to apply the methodology in diverse scenarios
  • Knowledge of the methodology and associated phases, activities and deliverables for manufacturing new or enhancing existing products
  • Ability to design, plan and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure product quality at all stages of manufacturing
  • Knowledge and associated ability to apply technical, scientific and mathematical knowledge to design and implement materials, structures, machines, devices, systems and processes that safely realize a desired objective or invention

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Automation Engineering role or relative experience
  • Automation Project management experience
  • Experience programming Fanuc and Spero robots or similar
  • Experience with SAP
  • Experience with 3D/CAD, preferably SolidWorks
  • Ability to handle the stress of working with others
  • Availability outside of normal business hours
  • Ability to lead by example
  • Ability to direct multiple project initiatives from a project management perspective
  • Ability to perform employee training, development, and coaching
  • Proven track record of project management experience
  • Solid understanding and ability to deploy LEAN, FMEA, and DOE principles
  • Microsoft Productivity applications including Excel, Project, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Outlook
  • PLC Programming experience
  • Knowledge of multiple axis automation in Cartesian and Articulating platforms (implementation of automated work-cells into manufacturing reducing human interface in ergonomic critical areas)
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to create a business case for investments
  • Capability to train technical associates in a manufacturing environment with demonstrated effectiveness
  • Safety / Risk audit skills
