Automation Engineering Manager*

*
Purpose: *Support, supervise and manage the inside sales team for the Automaton group related to management, safety, technical certifications, control system proposals, developing standards and processes, and ensuring acceptable engineering practices are utilized. Support and supervise the Automation Services Manager and ensure safety, profitability, and utilization goals are achieved.

Essential Functions:*

  • Technical Possess a high level of knowledge of all products from the Emerson Process Systems and Software group. Maintain UL certification and relationship, develop and continuously improve panel design standards using acceptable engineering practices to drive quality and consistency. Create, manage, and refine the onboarding of Application Engineers to the Automation team.
  • Inside Sales Operations Manages engineering, quotation, order entry, and workflow process to ensure accuracy and timeliness. Provides and promotes Exceptional Customer Experiences through the solution selling process while optimizing margin and business unit financials.
  • People Manages direct reports effectively through regular cadence to provide timely feedback and coaching for assigned tasks. Actively engages and supports direct reports in discussions around professional and career development. Identify and assist in the development of future leaders of Applied Control Equipment.
  • Services Support Automation Service Manager and ensure the overall effectiveness of the Service department.

Responsibilities:*

  • Establishes and manages task coverage guidelines to balance workflow, maximize the strengths of direct reports, and meet or exceed customer expectations
  • Monitors and manages Automation inventory to ensure high levels of customer service and efficient use of company capital
  • Leads Automation team to outline priorities and ensure delivery commitments are met
  • Develops and refines tools and work practices to ensure efficient operations and high-quality deliverables
  • Models and supports Applied Controls Vision, Core Values, and Objectives
  • Builds high morale and group commitment of Automation team members to company goals and objectives
  • Conducts regular cadence meetings, including quarterly personnel development plan conversations to support professional development and growth of direct reports
  • Leads the hiring and onboarding of new employees, including recruiting and interviewing for the Automation inside sales/engineering team and field service personnel
  • Act as the primary point of contact for UL audits and be responsible for maintaining UL certification and standards
  • Attend appropriate Emerson training to maintain fluency and knowledge levels required to support the Automation team
  • Facilitates collaboration between Inside Sales, Engineering, and Field Service with Outside Sales and Shop/warehouse personnel

  • B.S. in Engineering is required
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Strong Leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to changing environments

  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Technical knowledge of control systems (preferably DeltaV), panel design and fabrication, and UL Listing requirements.
  • Demonstrated sales ability and understanding of Solution Selling principles

Working Conditions:*
Variable - primarily in an office setting with occasional customer visits that may include overnight travel

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
