Job description
Responsible for the arrangement and management of the technical aspects of the outdoor Pavilion for Harper sponsored events and outside rentals. Provides assistance to the PAC and J-Theatre Technical Directors for productions in the PAC, J Building, M Building, A Building and outside locations as needed. Responsible for management of the technical aspects for the PAC and J Theatre Technical Directors while they are on vacation, need support or otherwise away from campus.
Performs technical setup of theatre lighting and sound equipment as well as any additional staging equipment to provide smooth running, strike and clean up needed for events in the outdoor pavilion.

Operates computerized lighting control systems in the Performing Arts Center, Drama Lab, J Theatre and outdoor pavilion.
Performs lighting hang, aim and focus for productions in the Performing Arts Center and Drama Lab.
Designs lighting and sound plots for productions in the Performing Arts Center, Drama Lab, J Theatre and outdoor pavilion.
Recommends for hire, provides direction, trains, schedules and oversees the day to day activities of all part-time technical support personnel and student aides with input from the PAC Technical Director; provides internship supervision if appropriate.
Trains all part-time technical support personnel in proper safety procedures for the counterweight fly system, personnel lifts, motorized chain hoists, truss rigging, winch motors, scenic rigging, theatrical lift, lighting equipment and lighting walkways with input from the PAC Technical Director.
Coordinates the technical and stage setup needs for all Music Department events across campus and all non-Theatre Department events in the Drama Lab.
Assists with the lighting hang, aim and focus for productions in the Performing Arts Center, J Theatre, and Drama Lab.
Coordinates with vendors and suppliers to schedule and facilitate the loading and unloading of trucks for equipment that is rented or purchased for productions in the outdoor pavilion. Responsible for the loading and unloading of trucks for equipment that is rented or purchased for productions.
Maintains equipment; recommends the purchase of new or replacement equipment; orders and obtains materials for productions where appropriate and ensures proper storage of theatrical staging equipment.
Performs routine maintenance of equipment in the Performing Arts Center, J Theatre and Drama Lab under the supervision of the Technical Director.
Performs on-site supervision of events to ensure all technical production requirements are met during events.
Maintains current knowledge of the functioning and operation of computerized lighting and sound control systems.
Operates theatrical equipment in a safe and efficient manner as dictated by safety and training guidelines for the department.
Performs safety checks on equipment and facilities ensuring safety guidelines are being met. Researches and recommends new safety products and areas for safety improvement in the performance spaces.
Attends monthly staff meetings, division meetings and any production meetings as required by event sponsor.
Monitors and keeps within the Theatre/Box Office budget each year.
Maintains inventories on Event Management department technical lighting, sound and staging equipment.
Demonstrates continuous effort to improve technical skills and knowledge in the operation of all theatrical equipment in the outdoor pavilion, Performing Arts Center, J Theatre and Drama Lab.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements: B.A. or B.F.A. in technical theatre preferred, Bachelor's Degree required.
Experience Requirements: Three years of technical theatre experience, which includes but is not limited to carpentry, electric, computer lighting systems and sound design.
Two years experience in general maintenance of technical equipment and technical service area.
