Location: Unclaimed Baggage: Operations
Position: Baggage Opener
Pay Grade: 2

Basic Function: To process baggage product whether it be in luggage, boxes or gaylord form, in a thorough and timely manner to provide merchandise to pricing, laundry, and distribution personnel.

General Responsibilities:
  • Thoroughly check each item of merchandise in a timely manner and place in proper location.
  • Check, clean, and place each item processed in correct bins to be sent to different pricing areas.
  • Examine and determine if clothing processed needs hanging, washed, steamed, or dry cleaned and place in/on correct buggies/carts to be sent to laundry.
  • Keep all 2-piece garments together in a garment bag within each laundry buggy.
  • Discard all clothing items deemed as not sellable in recycle gaylord (see Baggage Quality sheet for further clarification).
  • All other merchandise that is deemed not sellable place in appropriate bin for recycle.
  • Remove any personal identification from all items sent to Laundry or Pricing.
  • Examine and determine if strollers, car seats, and luggage carriers are sellable – ones that are sellable need all stickers and identification removed.
  • Strollers and car seats that are not sellable remove all vendor tags and identification and place in appropriate gaylord.
  • Any prescription medicine, illegal drugs, or any type of unknown powder or substances should be placed in wooden drug box.
  • Must be able to keep processing time separate on each load daily and record on daily paperwork.
  • Must be able to maintain good quality on all products.
  • Must be able to maintain specific production amounts for vender loads on a consistent basis (current goal - Airlines: 100% = 4 units per hour, 80% = 3.20 units per hour, Bus line: 100% = 5 units per hour, 80 % = 4 units per hour).
  • Must be able to identify and maintain current load numbers on all products.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the different styles of clothing as well as latest trends.
  • Must be able to differentiate between various electronic products.
  • Place all found monies in lock boxes, separate coins from bills (U.S. Dollars and Foreign Monies) and report any large finds over $500 to Manager/Supervisor immediately, do not count the money, your manager/supervisor will let you know if you have enough for gift cards or a celebration dinner.
  • Cross train within all operational departments.
  • All other tasks assigned by management.

Qualifications Requirements:
  • High School diploma or Equivalent
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
  • Light to moderate lifting is required
  • Repetitive motion is required
  • Development Requirements:
  • Must be willing to learn various brands of clothing and fabric care
  • Must be willing to learn and differentiate between various products

Schedule Hours:
  • 40+ hours per week, 6:00 am – 2:30pm Mon. – Fri. Flexibility in scheduling is required.
  • Saturdays overtime may be required as necessary.
  • Will be required to sign up for and potentially work one Holiday on the retail floor as needed
  • Mandatory work days are the Friday before Memorial Day, the day before Fourth of July, the Friday before Labor Day, the Friday before Ski Sale and the Saturday before Thanksgiving.

Reporting Relationship: Reports directly to Production Manager
