Job description
- Assist with supervision of all phases of the basketball program-planning, strategy, instruction in fundamentals, and so forth.
- Responsible for care and issuance of all basketball equipment used by the team.
- Communicate with high school coaching staff(s) and attend meetings or mini clinics at high school(s) to ensure continuity in the DCSD 7-12 grade boys’ basketball program.
- Understand, monitor and enforce district academic standards, policies and eligibility requirements.
- Develop players to their fullest potential, starting with the basic fundamentals of the game of basketball and progressing to skills beyond what is considered average.
- Understand and promote good sportsmanship among student-athletes.
- Complete required reports and record accurately and in a timely manner.
- Has a thorough knowledge of and responsible for the athletic policy approved by the Board of Education.
- Supervise players at all practices and games, as well as in the locker room and on the bus.
- Must possess an enthusiastic attitude and ability to understand intermediate-aged youth in an athletic setting.
- Work in cooperation with the building Activity Director and with the Director of Athletics for the Davenport Community Schools
- Other duties as assigned by administration.
- Must be willing to support and implement Davenport's multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) for both behavior and academics.
- Successful candidate must possess strong inter-personal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students to ensure each child reaches his/her full potential.
- Good attendance and punctuality are a must to ensure that the duties and responsibilities of the job are performed successfully
- Ability to demonstrate basketball techniques as necessary.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Be able to drive school vans to events
- Be able to lift, carry, pull or push 50+lbs
- Must possess valid Iowa coaching authorization and submit completed NFHS Online Concussion Course
- Ability to communicate effectively with players, coaches, parents, and others who work with the program.
- Recognition of the need for confidentiality with respect to student and parental rights to privacy, as well as confidentiality of all conversation and hard copy information
- Ability to create enthusiastic, positive environment that promotes future student participation in the program.
