Excelsior Classical Academy is a tuition-free public charter school with a rigorous, college-preparatory, liberal arts focus. We firmly believe in making this educational option accessible to all students in the Durham area. In order to allow anyone who wants to attend our school to do so, we

• offer busing.
• provide free or reduced-price lunch to those who qualify.
• provide assistance with uniforms to those who qualify.
• offer a Before- and After-School Program.

Excelsior Classical Academy is accepting applications for a Behavior Specialist for grades 6-8 for immediate hire.

Job Responsibilities:

• Assist students in identifying inappropriate behaviors and developing appropriate behavior alternatives;
• Intervene and de-escalate when behaviors are disruptive or threaten student safety;
• Collaborate with teachers, counselors, administrators, and the school psychologist to design behavioral intervention plans (BIPs) for students;
• Measure effectiveness of BIPs;
• Facilitate conferences with parents/guardians, as needed;
• Document all interactions with students and families;
• Collect and identify patterns in behavior data;
• Provide supervision before, during, after school, including lunch periods, and other school events, as needed
• Lead professional development for middle grades personnel with regard to restorative justice
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent;
• Calm demeanor and strong conflict resolution skills;
• Ability to de-escalate emotionally charged situations;
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively;
• Belief in the value of restorative over punitive justice.
