Other employment requirements.
New staff must have proof of meeting the vaccination guidelines per CMS guidelines. New staff must be fully vaccinated or have submitted and have an approved exemption prior to their date of hire.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Work requires knowledge of basic patient care, procedures and techniques generally acquired through Facility-provided orientation usually lasting one week.
- Successful completion of facility provided Mental Health Technician training within first three (3) months of hire. Must complete 23 training modules and successfully pass a written exam.
- Approved CPR Certification.
- Demonstrate the motivation and ability to learn the intricacies of the mental health population to transition to a Mental Health Technician position.
- Demonstrate a sense of urgency related to the importance of patient safety and provide excellent customer service.
- Ensure the well-being of patients and provide a positive, supportive and structured environment.
- May conduct safety checks with an accompanying staff member ensuring that supervision is conducted at 15 minute intervals in accordance with safety round guidelines.
- Assist with documenting timely, accurate and appropriate clinical information in patient’s medical record.
- Assist in providing a safe, secure and comfortable environment for patient’s, visitors and staff.
- Interact routinely with patients, observe behaviors and communicate significant observations to nursing staff.
- With an accompanying staff member, may oversee or assist patients with activities of daily living, including toileting, bathing, dressing, grooming, oral hygiene, meals, snacks, hydration and changing bed linens.
- May obtain patient’s vital signs with an accompanying staff member including, height and weight, as assigned and assist with documenting in patient record.
- With an accompanying staff member, assist with facilitation of patient educational-rehabilitative groups which cover a variety of topics including social skills, coping skills, anger management and independent living skills.
- With an accompanying staff member, engage patients in activities and interactions designed to encourage achievement of treatment goals.
- Complete and maintain required documentation. Assist with follow-up ad paperwork as required on incidents and events that may take place in the facility.
- Demonstrate a positive, empathetic and professional attitude always. When patient needs are not met, acknowledge and work to resolve complaints.
