Behavioral Specialist

Our team is currently seeking a Behavioral Specialist within the Family Support Services Department. This is a full-time position, funded by Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities (CCBDD) that will provide specialized behavioral intervention services and support to eligible individuals within the Cuyahoga County Board of Development Disabilities’ (CCBDD) Interdisciplinary Teams (IDT).

The Behavioral Specialist will have primary responsibility for organizing and implementing the Weekend Respite Program (one Saturday, per month) for individuals with disabilities.

The Behavioral Specialist will also provide support and consultation to the Therapy Department-lead After School Program and will attend sessions as available.

Responsibilities:

• Provides short-term specialized behavioral management interventions, supports and post-crisis strategies to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families during in-home/community visits while valuing individual’s choice, preferences and needs.
• Implements Behavioral Support Plans.
• Prepares screenings and assessments in accordance with specific guidelines to augment existing service or as a guide in determining or changing level of services.
• Supports individuals and their families with monitoring and managing emotional and behavioral symptoms and educating on effective coping and social skills development.
• Works in collaboration with CCBDD IDT teams, school officials and other team members, including but not limited to Supportive Administrators (SA) and contracted Service Coordinators (SC).
• Facilitates program oversight of Weekend Respite program, which includes curriculum development, implementation and engagement, coordination of services and guidance/coaching to team members.
• Provides consultation and assists with instructional skill-building activities and tasks, social-emotional and overall support to individuals in After School program, as available.

Requirements and Qualifications:

• Successful completion of a specialized Behavioral Management training or Master’s Degree in Psychology, Education/Special Education, Counseling, Social Work or related field from an accredited program.
• Minimum of three (3) years of successful experience working directly with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities and complex family systems through providing behavioral management strategies, skill-building instruction and crisis intervention in a home, school, or clinical setting.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, time-management and organizational skills in high stressful situations.
• Ability to guide and support staff on best practices standards and clinical care in working with children, youth, adults and their families.
