POSITION SUMMARY:
Performs sod harvesting by operating harvesting equipment as well as stack pieces of sod to assist the sod harvesting supervisor in harvesting fields.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
- Mechanically harvest sod pieces weighing approximately twelve (12) pounds by grasping the sod pieces from a moving conveyor belt onto a wooden pallet into a specific pattern.
- Carry empty wood pallets from the side to the back of the sod harvesting machine.
- Demonstrated ability to operate the sod harvesting machine.
- Must be able to harvest (between three (3) employees) approximately 100 pallets a day consisting of 94 pieces of sod per pallet.
- Fulfill all safety requirements as outlined by company policy.
- Work (6) days a week up to ten (10) hours per day depending upon daily sod orders.
- Perform all safety requirements as identified in the Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE DESIRED:
- No specific education required.
SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, ETC:
- Ability to operate the sod harvesting machine.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: (IF APPLICABLE)
- No supervisory responsibilities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS (Lifting, Bending, Stretching, etc.)
- Requires standing for four (4) to six (6) hours per day. Requires sitting for two (2) to three (3) hours per day.
- Requires repetitive lifting of up to twenty (20) pounds. Requires performance of repetitive bending, pushing, pulling, grasping and REPETITVE TWISTING AT THE WAIST LEVEL AS WELL AS REPETITIVE USE OF SHOULDERS AND BACK MUSCLES.
- Requires minimum vision requirements with a good sense of balance.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Work is performed in various field locations.
- Work requires exposure to all temperature and weather extremes, moving equipment, wetness, dust, fumes, and requires walking on soft muck and hard and uneven surfaces.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
Must be a team player who is willing to cooperate with others.
Must be able to accept corrective criticism from supervisor.
Must be willing to take on a variety of assignments as assigned by management on an as-needed basis within the department and within other areas of King Ranch if necessary.
