TITLE: Benefits Analyst (Employee Benefits Consulting)
LOCATION: Headquarters
REPORTS TO: Vice President, Employee Benefits Specialist- Team Leader
CLASSIFICATION: Full Time, Non Exempt
PAY GRADE: NE 40 ($18.05-$30.08 per hour)
AVAILABILITY: Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm

Position Summary:
The Benefit Analyst works in conjunction with an Employee Benefit Specialist (EBS) and an Employee Benefit Consultant (EBC) to deliver proactive service to the clients. The Benefit Analyst analyzes new and renewal business data, claims history as well as loss experience to underwrite the potential for risk and provide a complete and accurate benefit analysis. The Benefit Analyst is responsible for quoting, spread sheeting and meeting material preparation to the client service team as well as maintaining schedules for assigned projects to deliver timely and accurate data entry and maintenance in all agency software programs.

The Benefit Analyst regularly practices discretionary decision making on a daily basis on determining if the end product being delivered to the client is intended to add value, enabling the client to be competitive in their own industry. The Benefit Analyst remains familiar with the group benefits related insurance carriers the agency utilizes and the products quoted by the department.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Responsible for utilizing market knowledge to obtain quotes and preferred carrier availability for all lines of coverage under the instruction of the EBS and EBC and then leverages these materials to negotiate on behalf of the client.
  • Prepares proposal materials for review for new and existing business
  • Review and monitor claims data to ensure proper analysis.
  • Maintains claims history and all reporting for each large group account.
  • Responsible to manage and track their renewal accounts and ensure analysis is provided to the EBS/EBC within the proper renewal workflow.
  • Develops new policies and workflow procedures.
  • Responsible for gathering insurance carrier updates and updating the small group quoting database (Community Rating Tool is updated quarterly and as updates become available).
  • Reviews benefit insurance carrier contract paperwork for accuracy and completion to assure compliance with Underwriting requirements.
  • Utilizes systematic, reproducible processes such as checklists, branded template documents to advance and support our service model.
  • Utilizes internal database to thoroughly record and document client issues/discussions.
  • Actively participates in internal meetings, contributing appropriately in a collaborative manner.
  • Educates team members on new products, services, and other related offerings.

Education & Experience:
  • A 4 year college degree in Business or a related field is preferred.
  • Life, accident and health licenses are required.
  • Ability to maintain flexible schedule, including possible evenings.
  • Must have own transportation, or access to reliable transportation on short notice to travel to other off-site locations and valid driver's license plus ability to maintain this throughout employment.
  • Must be a forward thinker, possess great time management skills, be able to work under pressure and willing to take constructive criticism.
  • Must be an enthusiastic, positive and productive team player.
  • Must possess organizational skills and have the ability to work independently.
  • Must have good human relations and excellent communication skills in dealing with staff and customers.
