Bilingual Program Director (BPD)

REPORTS TO: Sr. Program Director or Chief Program Officer

FLSA STATUS: Full Time, Exempt

POSITION IMPORTANCE TO MISSION

This position provides Cancer Support Community Arizona (CSCAZ) the capacity to fully serve Latino families impacted by cancer, develop partnerships within the Latino community, and assist the organization in further developing a program service model that can be replicated throughout Arizona to better serve high-risk, underserved, and underinsured populations. This position also provides overall leadership for the Hospital Navigation Team.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

This position provides an opportunity to have direct impact in a fast paced and creative environment with the key goal of building up CSCAZ services for the Latino population that reflects a full program of psychosocial support based upon our five pillars including Support, Healthy Lifestyle activities,

Educational workshops, Social Connection events, and Resource and Referral needs. In addition, the Bilingual Program Director (BPD) will assist with building a sustainable program reaching the broader

Arizona community and assist in developing and executing new program delivery models that exemplify researched, evidence-based, gold-star programming while responding to community need.

The BPD also provides overall leadership and day-to-day supervision to the Hospital Navigation team. The BPD helps prioritize, develop, train, and support the Navigation team, as well as working with Senior Leadership to grow this important revenue-generating program.

The BPD is responsible for ensuring that program standards are maintained and that program practices, policies, and procedures meet all state and professional mental health licensing standards.

The BPD builds and maintains relationships with members/participants, program staff, hospital staff, speakers, and key programmatic constituents in the healthcare arena and the community at large; develops and manages the program budget and program financial performance; and maintains program statistics and reports. The BPD works with the Sr. Program Director (or CPO (Chief Program Officer)) to ensure program consistency throughout the organization. The BPD ensures that programming for the Spanish speaking population is consistent with the standards of the Cancer Support Community while remaining culturally appropriate.

The BPD works closely with the CEO (Chief Executive Officer) and the CSCAZ leadership team to provide consultation as it relates to general program operations, outreach and marketing, grant writing and reporting, and participates in fundraising activities.

The BPD must embody the highest professional standards and demonstrate warmth and compassion as he/she works with members/participants, staff, volunteers, and others in building and maintaining a sense of community. Strong communication, collaboration, ethics, and organizational skills are a must.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Administration

  • Utilize clinical expertise to ensure the accordance of the program with Cancer Support Community (CSC) Program Standards as defined in the Program Manual and Policies and Procedures.
  • In collaboration with other staff and Board, participate in the development of strategic and employee goals and objectives as it relates to program delivery, reach, and evaluation.
  • Develop content for the program calendar and organization that reflects a Latino Program for psychosocial support including Support, Healthy Lifestyle activities, Educational workshops, Social Connection events, and Resource and Referral needs.
  • Orient and monitor workshop presenters, adjunct instructors, and other speakers to ensure quality, fair balance, and adherence to CSC policies. Supervise the planning and implementation of all Latino program services, and coordinate staff coverage as needed.
  • Oversee, support, and grow the Hospital Navigation program by working closely with the Navigation team, maintaining frequent contact with involved hospital staff, and developing proposals for Navigation program expansion opportunities.
  • Regularly evaluate participant satisfaction and program effectiveness using workshop evaluations, annual surveys of participants and PAB (Professional Advisory Board) members, and other tools.
  • Work collaboratively with Sr. Program Leadership for development and delivery of program services.
  • Oversee collection of program and participant statistical data, submit quarterly Latino and Hospital Navigation Program statistics reports to headquarters, and complete other reports as required by the CEO and Board. Utilize this data to assess program utilization trends and to plan for program expansion and/or reductions if necessary.
  • Oversee maintenance and security of participant registration forms, group rosters, group notes/files, and participant activity sheets.
  • Assist in creating and monitoring an annual budget for relevant areas of the Program Department.
  • Assist in creating a network of support and collaborations within the Latino community that will lead to increased referrals and resources.

Direct Service to Participants

  • Provide and/or arrange for back-up group coverage when a staff, facilitator, or instructor must be support group per our Program guidelines absent for his/her group or program.
  • Maintain skills and training qualifications in hospital navigation delivery at all hospital partners to ensure program delivery excellence and coverage when needed.
  • Ensure all CSCAZ Support Group processes are adhered to for Latino participants including pre- group interviews, referrals, and facilitator support for patients experiencing suicidal or other reportable distress.
  • Conduct newcomer meetings and open/close for educational presentations.
  • Ensure that Spanish Open to Options and 1x1 counseling are utilized and a consistent aspect of programming.
  • Obtain and utilize hospital staff feedback to continue to improve Navigation performance for staff and participants.

Supervision and Professional Development

  • Supervise bilingual staff performing Spanish speaking services and the Hospital Navigation team.
  • Recruit, hire, and supervise staff providing Latino program services and Resource Navigators in the hospital setting.
  • Educate, train, and monitor consistency for non-program staff and volunteers on the basics of the program and CSCAZ in general within Latino and Hospital Navigation events (e.g., volunteers, orientation leaders, interns, and board members).
  • Keep up to date and be conversant on psychosocial oncology issues and publications and represent the CSCAZ at professional meetings.
  • Co-facilitate clinical intern supervision with Sr. Program Director/Chief Program Officer.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of Master’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Counseling, or a related field.
  • Preference for licensure with the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners (AZBBHE), but not required.
  • 2+ years of relevant leadership experience.
  • Fully fluent in English and Spanish required as well as demonstrated ability to provide culturally appropriate services.
  • Strong people skills, including experience with psychosocial support and ability to work with issues surrounding chronic and life-threatening illness.
  • Demonstrated administrative skills, including planning, organizing, scheduling, budget management, financial performance, statistical and program reports, and innovative program development.
  • Solution-focused problem solver able to set healthy limits while maintain rapport.
  • Ability to administer CSCAZ policies and procedures while maintaining a warm, professional, personal, informative, and effective program.
  • Ability to interact with individuals at all levels (participants, donors, staff, public). Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to work a varied and flexible schedule, including evenings and Saturdays.
  • Valid Driver’s License and willingness to travel the Phoenix metro area and statewide as needed.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
