Physical Sciences Inc., located north of Boston in Andover, MA, seeks a self-motivated Scientist to support development of bio-related optics technologies, with an emphasis on the development of fluorescence spectroscopy and imaging systems. This scientist will support the development of new optical imaging and spectroscopic technologies leading to products targeted for use in clinical, biological research and biopharmaceutical applications. This position involves working with an experienced team of scientists, engineers and program managers to develop novel hardware solutions to address emerging clinical, research and biopharmaceutical industry needs. A strong desire to develop independent research programs through successful proposal writing is required. Candidates with following credentials are encouraged to apply:

  • Optical spectroscopy and imaging instrumentation: Prior experience developing optical spectroscopy and imaging instruments for biomedical or biochemical research, clinical and pharmaceutical applications is desirable. Optical design experience using Zemax or related software tools are desirable. Hands-on skills with optical system assembly, alignment, testing, and trouble-shooting are required.
  • Biomedical or Biochemical research experience: Prior experience developing and preforming clinical and/or preclinical biomedical or biochemical research experiments is required. Cell culture skills and experimental experience handling cell cultures are highly desirable.
  • PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, Biochemistry, Optics, or Biomedical Engineering is required. Postdoctoral or industrial research experience is highly desirable. A strong record of technical leadership documented by a record of peer-reviewed technical publications is required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required and proven R&D leadership experience, including a record of leading technical programs, and product and business development, are highly valued.
