Your impact:
Oprah Daily is looking for a books director, print and digital , to manage our books coverage across platforms, including digital, print, and social. This person will manage Oprah’s Book Club in addition to assigning, editing, and programming for success on social, search, and newsletters. The books director will focus on membership growth and identifying revenue opportunities.

What you’ll do:
- Commission weekly books lists successful in the digital space from straightforward category coverage (beach reads, thrillers, literary fiction, romance, think books, etc.) to emotion-based lists
- Commission pieces from authors with the aim of attracting audience (essays, listicles, graphic storytelling)
- Track metrics and use to refine book coverage strategy for lists, essays, interviews and listicles
- Spearhead Oprah’s Book Club selections 4-6 times a year
- Direct Oprah Daily video coverage
- Track metrics and use to increase audience of OBC
- Liaise with Oprah Daily executive managing editor to secure contracts with publishers
- Spearhead OBC social coverage with members of the social team
- Direct OBC supporting materials (curriculum guide)
- Manage the books editor
- Develop a digital strategy to cover genres of interest to the brand’s audience
- Choose books the audience responds to, to increase affiliate revenue and membership
- Coordinate with other members of the edit team to ensure that we’re capturing timely and brand-friendly excerpts
Who you are:
- 10+ years related editorial experience, specifically around a consumer publication’s books coverage
- Extensive contacts in the publishing world
- Proven editorial and interview skills and/or related professional skills
- Literary eye and passion for books and all things book-related
- Comfortable working in print and in digital content management systems and ready to learn Hearst’s proprietary CMS
- Significant demonstrated experience growing membership through digital content
- Significant demonstrated experience successfully identifying revenue opportunities using multiple mediums (including affiliate revenue, e-commerce products, etc.)
- Experience with managing other team members
- Background in tracking metrics and analytics to drive business goals
- Familiarity with Google Analytics, Adobe Creative Suite, social scheduling software and other common software and digital tools a plus
- Must be a bridge-builder and problem solver, excited about the opportunity to operate in an entrepreneurial environment
- Must be a collaborative team player
The base salary for this role is between $125,000 and $150,000. The actual base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
